I've searched for weeks on this topic, and no luck!My transmission is going bad and I need to replace it. I cannot find any place that sells sr transmission rebuild kits. From what I understand the ka/sr trannies differ by 5th gear, and shaft thickness on one small section.

Can I rebuild my SR transmission with KA parts?

My plan is to buy an SR transmission, have it rebuilt, and swap trannies. That way there is minimal downtime. I could then rebuild/sell the old SR transmission if I wanted.

I know somebody knows this. You can't all just buy a new transmission everytime you break something.

So nobody knows about rebuilding an SR transmission? Everyone just uses a KA transmission?

the trannys are almost identical other than gear ratio in 5th like you said. Why wouldnt you use a KA transmission since they are pretty much everywhere.

if you're looking for a rebuild kit, just order the internals for the KA trans. Like it's been said, they're identical except the 5th gear ratio. Heck, with as little abuse as 5th gear sees, you shouldn't have to replace the gear or the syncro hub

Guess I never looked into the KA trannies. My buddy just told me SR trannies are cheaper, so I never even gave the KA transmission a thought.

What? how owuld a SR transmission be cheaper? Maybe FWD SR.. SR trannys are required if you have a SR so doubt they would be cheaper than a KA transmission that everyone pulls with a SR swap.

sorry bro...there has been a lot goin on lately. well i got the transmission in and it didnt work ...but, it only is because of my dumbass trying to rush things and when i put the bellhousing on i didnt check to see if the shift forks were all lined up anif it shifted ok which it doesnt. so i tore the old sr one down and my 5th gear shift fork isin two pieces but i found out where there need to be. so what i am sayin in short is you may need to pull the tail section and line up the shift fork and make sure it shifts fine before you put it back in ok????
