SRBURG13...That SUCKS!! Sorry to hear that.
I bought my 1990 240SX 2 weeks ago, the head gasket was shot on the car, I got an amazing deal, the body is MINT and only 120000KM's not miles!! The same week I bought my SR20DET with transmission and starter for 1900$ CDN (1200$US)with blown turbo, cut harness, no ignitor chip, no MAF.
I pulled the stock motor, cleaned out the engine bay.
I am reabuilding the SR20DET as we speak with:
-JE pistons and Eagle rods (1800$ CDN)-Clevite bearings (~200$CDN)-Gaskets(~200$CDN)-ARP head stud kit (210$CDN)-Machine work to bore the Cylinders(240$CDN)-Labour to dismantle and rebuild the motor(500$CDN)Total~2000$US
I will not have A/C or Power steering, this is my weekend car, I do not care about parking the car at the mall, it will not go to the mall! Once the car is in motion, steering will be all good.
I am using the Haltech E6K for engine management 1000$US for the unit plus 900$US for installation and full dyno tunning.
I will have a Custom Fuel rail, with 720cc injectors, bosch external fuel pump, new lines 650$US.
FMIC with custom piping and BOV 600$US.
Nice Big Turbo of which the specs will remain a secret! (I got the MOST amazing deal on this it's not even funny) 350$US
Tial WG 200$US
Custom intake manifold with shortened runners 250$US and Custom exhaust manifold 250$US.Custom 3 inch turbo back exhaust 600$US
So let's say 8000$US so that means for me it's 12800$ CDN.
Some people say "Wow, that's crazy, how can you spend that much" But I mean, my previous car was a Ford Focus, I had turboed the stock motor myself, had 235whp with it, but there was an electrical problem and it cought fire. I ALMOST bought a used Focus, it would have cost me 10000$ and I would have a 110whp piece of wood.
Here, I am spending 8000$ US to have 450whp street driven RWD car. Sure, the motor and everything else can handle more power, but I just want 450 to the wheels, reliably so I can drive like I want.
Fewf, I think that basically sums it up.
NOW, on to suggestions. What I would suggest for anyone just looking to have the SR20DET into their car, and have some basic mechanical skills, good budy to help out and some tools, is to buy a complete front clip. This way, you will have ALL the wiring, the ignitor chip, the MAF, the intercooler and pipes, the Rad that has the correct location of inlet and outlet tubes. Basically everything, and since you are basically just taking it out of one shell, and putting it into your car, it's pretty much straight forward, you take the part off the clip, and go install it into your car at the same place.
Some places sell a "Complete" swap, but sometimes, it's hard to know where everything goes if you want to takle the job yourself.
I would have been able to get a complete front clip for a Silvia for 4300$ CDN so 2700$US.
That's it, I'm done!
