I just replaced my sr longblock about 3k ago. All was good untill two nights ago, started to hear a slight knock. After investigation, pulling #1 coil plug the knock quieted. So im like 98% positive its spun rod bearing.

Now I plan on pulling the motor out, putting it on my stand. The only part i havent been able to answer with searching is, how will i get my bearing grade numbers when i cant see the front of the crank. I really dont want to pull the crank, obviously unless its tore up. I did however read that on the bearing halves theres a color marking? Now my old sr is disassembled but I did not find a color marking on the rod bearings.

Can someone please help me out on finding the correct bearing grade without pulling the head/oil pump/crank.

Thanks Nico!!

well chances are that if you spun a bearing the crank is going to have to get machined again there will probably be groves in the crank now. Sometimes the rod needs to be replaced also if its severe enough. Its probobly a good ideal to replace your oil pump anyways if you spun a bearing.

I would just do acl race standard and not have to worry about grades (unless of course there's major crank or journal damage) but here's a writeup on how to find the grades and replace. diy-rebuilding-an-sr20det-t309576.html
Either way your gonna have to pull the whole bottom apart. The grade markings are ON the crank and block under the upper oil pan.

Im going to pull it out and check that single rod bearing, if the cranks bad, i just throw my other crank in. s*** then i still have to pull the head!

If its not tore up ill try sliding by with putting new acl rod bearings in... all depending on condition.
The knock really isnt all that loud, and seems to go away with higher revs. Hopefully the cranks still pretty.

THanks for the input guys! :mike
