Well I'm thinking about purchasing an SR20DET swapped car for almost nothing but it needs some bottom end work, he says it's the rod bearings and the car can still run or drive so I'm guessing it's not too bad then. The car is selling for 1500, and everything from the pictures look great. I'm wondering if I should just stay away from the car or how hard of a job would replacing the rod bearings be? I'm also assuming if the car can still run and drive the bearing isn't so worn down that the rod would need replaced or the crank resurfaced either.

I've read some things about the job and it's a day job, but what do you guys think about it. I also know I've heard the SR20 is notorious for spinning bearings so I'm hoping that would be all that it is.

Sr motors are not known to spin bearings unless there is a loss of oil/pressure. If the knock is loud enough to hear than I almost guarantee it will need crank work done and maybe a new rod. Rods are not machinable nor cost effective to do so. Im not sure how you would get the second part of the oil pan out. Without pulling motor or at least jacking It way up. I just rebuilt my buddies SR and the rod. Knock start one block from his house cruising and rod journal was. 020 out of round and also messed up the main on the crank. To weld/grind the crank was 350 including balance, new rod was 45, new oil pump 150, new rod/main/ thrust bearings (clevite) 100.00$. Definitely not a one day deal. If you have the time you could pull a crankshaft from a infinity g20 at a wrecking yard for cheap but that's alot of work.

Thanks dude I'm gonna have to check it out for sure. I asked the guy about it and he said the car hasn't been driven since but I'll definitely look into everything I need.

Hopefully it's just bad bearings. Even still I'll look at everything I need to do to it.
