Sup all, I've been reading through the forums for about 2 weeks now, and I finally got my account fixed so it will let me post :)Anyhow on to the questions.*Disclaimer; I tried the search function but didn't find anything*I drive 100 miles round trip to school 3 times a week in my car, would an SR swap be a bad idea? The swap is a ways off, since I want to start on suspension and brakes first. But I want to do plenty of research before I jump into something I'm going to regret. This is my first car, I want to do it right. Thanks for your help!

The SR20 is just as reliable as any other Nissan engine (for what thats worth), Just because it came from Japan doesnt mean its prone to breaking down more often. To avoid the engine breaking get newer ones as an extra precaution. Yes SR's will be able to go 100 miles 3 times a week.

What should I expect as far as turbo maintenance goes? How long will the stock turbo's last at stock boost? When I up the boost, it will probably only be to 9 maybe 10 psi.Sorry if these are dumb questions but I've never owned a turbo car before, don't know what's different about them.

Well the problem with many of the engines is that they are fairly old. Not used, just OLD. As an engine sits in Japan there are certain parts that degrade over time if not used. I have a 94 redtop SR and the turbo's seals just crapped out on me a few weeks ago at about 35000 miles. So depending highly upon the condition you recieve your engine in you may have longer or shorter time to wait before your turbo needs to be rebuilt.

I used to drive 100 miles a day everyday...I try to keep it out of boost but sometimes its so hard when I see some punk thinking he's all hard is his little GST...Anyways, I don't drive over 129kph/80mph so I think I'm fine. Oil changes every month just to be on the safe side...That's about it.

How much does it cost to have your turo rebuilt? Would it make more sense just to upgrade rather than get it rebuilt? Chris

I just spent $505 to have the seals replaced though it was actually $400 then 105 for S&H and tax. Its too bad I couldnt raise 300 more for at least a T28.

Depends what condition the engine is in when you get it. What you do is replace all the long running terms like bearings and seals and gaskets before you ever throw it into the car.

SR20's are very reliable for the most part. Expect the first few months to be hell though after the swap. Fine tuning, and little problems here and there are such a headache. Other than that, you won't regret you did the swap!

The power more than makes up for the hellish fine tuning, even when its running bad its a blast.

Its an engine not a newborn baby. Commen sense tells me that you should consider that a test period. Before you leave let it warm up and note all the fluid levels then when you get home check them again.

I run 89 octane and drive it over two hundred miles a week and race with the boost up. I change the oil every two months Mobil 1 15 w 50. For over two years no problems whatsoever.
