I have a redtop with a horrible idle. I've found a video on youtube of someone else car which has the exact idle issue as I am currently experiencing.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUR9xHwtCmI

As far as I know, the swap is completely stock.

Things done so far:Replaced stock KA fuel pump for a walbro 255Replaced all spark plugs for ngk plugs gapped at .030Couldn't set timing correctly.Completely remove and clean intake manifold (some damn coolant line was the reason for the removal) and IACVChecked codes and get 55 A OKCleaned and replaced the MAFTried to adjust idle but wasn't aware that the tps needed to be unplugged.Checked for vacuum leaks and plugged the loose hoses and removed access.

What are your suggestions?

Just for confirmation. On the top of the throttle body there are 2 vacuum lines. The one on the left is capped and the one of the right tees of to the FPR and the BOV. Is this ok or should I separate them and use the capped hose?

the one in the vid sounds like a dead cylinder. unplug all you injectors one by one and listen to make sure there is a defference in the idle.

The pulse is a little too slow for a dead cylinder. I tried unplugging the injectors one by one and it makes a much quicker miss. Sounds like a WRX after each one is unpluged.

I will take it to someone who can see what's wrong with the timing. I think things are messed up.

I just took it to sr20store and he said that the cam teeth were off. I will post If that took care of the problem. Thanks redsx13 for your help.

I think my car has the same issue yours does. I can't set my timing and my idle is weird, how can you tell if the cam teeth are off?

I feel like I have a very similar problem. How did you reset the timing chain on the cams without taking the front cover off to check the crank mark?

If mine is off I imagine it was from after the front cover went on and the chain was dangling off the side of the block. Either that or when I snaked it through the head. Could have easily slackened and caught on the wrong tooth. Stupid mistake, but I'm not sure thats what's happening to me.

Well i checked mine and my exhaust cam was at 12oclock instead of 1oclock, but It appears I have an aftermarket timing chain and it only has a gold link no black links?? So I have no way of knowing where to exactly position the exhaust cam, any help?

Oh s***, I didn't know that this thread was still going on. My chain didn't have any marks so I just took it to a sr20 specialist. He says that he knows how it goes and that was all he said.

I know that when the engine is tdc the dowel pin of the exhaust cam should face up but I don't remember how exactly. Hopefully someone with experience could chime in.

Yeah, no matter what I tried, I couldn't get the timing correct and the car ran horrible.

so turns out my timing was off, set the timing and put it back together, idles and runs PERFECT, with the exception of when Im driving and I try to get down on it, it will start popping and almost sound like its on 3 cylinders, but if I ease into the throttle it will pick up just fine. Any ideas?

So I started swapping out coil packs today and turns out coil pack on cylinder four was bad. Car runs perfect now.
