sr20det rebuild but no firing

i just rebuilt my sr because of a pesky lil rod knock but anyways i got it with everything hooked up but theres no firing my question is if the cam position sensor aint in right will the stop it from firing because it turns over and seems like it wants to start but its not so will that effect it from starting
