It is advisable to follow the manufacturers book, but if in doubt go with 5w 30. It's a great medium and good for all year, summer winter etc, that is if winter applies to you. Make sure you change your oil every 70 hours of run time on your engine.

if you just did the sr20det swap use mobile 1 drive clean 20w50 change oil within 500 miles of driving for the first time.next use same grade of oil for 2nd 800 miles and 3rd 1500 miles oil changes.after the break-in motor you can use full synthelic oil mobile 1 synthelic 10w30 everday but change oil as often every 2000 miles.

SR20s typically DO NOT need any break in..remember, they are used junkyard motors we buy from overseas. No need to take special precaution, or do any break in.

Maybe one oil change soon after the swap to remove any gunk, but that's all...

Also, it's a waste to change Mobil 1 so often...look around the web, read some test data.

A guy did a test where he sent 1/4 quart of Mobil 1 to an independent lab (Blackstone Labs IIRC...) every 1000 miles, and the used oil tested better than dino oil and as good as new Mobil 1 for close to ~18,000 miles.

That's a filter change evey 3000 miles, and topping off the oil as needed (basically replacing the 1/4 quart that he drained for testing).

FYI...

we recommend 500 miles than oil change. That should suffice.

rocwyld06,

You stated that the SR20DET project is finished. Do you mean that you just swaped in a junk yard engine from Japan; or did you actually take the time to pull it apart, redo the bottom end, new valvetrain ect?

If the latter, then follow the new motor break in rules, otherwise I agree with jammer......5w30.

Have you ever heard the nightmares of people who have ordered from flashoptions?

The prices are cheap, but then again, you never get anything for your money.

That picture they have on the site looks like trash. That front end is nasty! You can get much better.
