Ok so i was thinking which way to go, SR-DET or KA-DET. Then I got to thinking what would make my car worth more, so I went on over to auto trader and looked for car like mine (s14, manual, se). I couldent find and ka-det's but the sr-det powered car were much higher in price. So my point is putting a sr into your car is a better investment then putting a turbo on the KA, if you ever look to sell the car. To me I can not justify putting a turbo on my KA if I can ad 6k to its value just by adding a sr20det.

once you do something to take the car beyond stock, the value drops completely. If you swap an engine, the car is pretty much worthless. You are almost required to sell it to enthusiasts at this point because the majority of the populace don't want a car with massive work done to it.

i dont think you can get more by investing into your car. either u planning to turbo your Ka or swap an sr, the buttom line is that your gonna loose more money if you try to sell it afterwards, thats my opinion. to add 6 grand more is like adding 10-15k in investment sorry to say.

Yes a 240 with an SR is worth more than one with a KAT in it.

its worth more to the enthusiast crowd as was said earlier, but not to people that are looking for oem style cars.

If you are going to sell your 240 after putting an SR in it to anyone on this forum, yeas its worth more. But then again, if you are going to sell it after putting a JDM engine in it, why sell it to just your average joe? Its your responsability at that point to let this crowd know about it. This enthusiast crowd is going to appreciate it alot more than Joe Schmoe would.

in my opinion....people(most) on ebay looking for sr's are just looking for the "JDM tyte silvia style".....i dont know....but for me id rather go with the ka-t....and yes there is a whole list of these threads...do a search....but for your car being worth more with a swap....yes i think people will buy it...people with money...and dont want to spend time with the car....hey...but all this is just my opinion...(dont want to start another fight)

I would never EVER buy a KA24DET. And most fanboys wouldn't even know what that is.

so take that for what its worth.

im sorry, but thats just a really dumb statement, even for an opinion statement. the way ka's are coming up, it wont be long before they are just as popular as sr's.

I don't care how much they come up.

I would never EVER EVER buy a KAT. #1, too many janky installs. janky installs are more common than janky sr swaps. #2, well.. .pissing contest, but IMO, KA sucks. #3, I probably wouldn't buy a car already that highly modified anyways.

i wouldnt buy a car that highly modified either. but as far as janky installs go, you do it yourself and it comes out janky - you know where to lay the blame. i do all of my installs myself because i simply dont trust anyone with my stuff. just out of curiousity, why the hate towards the ka? they are a very reliable engine n/a and they can be made to be reliable boosted.

I wouldn't buy a 240 with a KA24DET, I want to do my own work on my car. But, don't expect to earn any decent amount of money by sellin a SR 240, you won't get nearly as much out of it as you put into it. That goes for pretty much any engine you could put in a 240 tho.

A properly modded car can be worth well more than book.

If you are trying to sell to Mom and Pop it wont help/hurt.But why would I sell to a non enthusiast anyway?

My Q books for justa few grand yet I have had offers for double and more of Kelly retail for it.

..:)

I don't care how you do yours. I said there are a lot of janky KAT installs.

blah blah blah, i've heard that a million times, and I've only seen a couple of shining examples that can live up to what everyone else clames. I've been around too many, and I know crap when I see it. They don't take sustained hard conditions real well, like road courses. If you let them cool down constantly, then sure, but run them on a road course for at least a half hour then report back.

i have yet to see what youre talking about although i have to admit, i dont road course at all. but of the ka's that i do know of, including mine, have seen nothing but good times(and i dont mean track times) and reliability. now i see some of that bad attitude thats associated with 240 owners. im just surprised to see it coming from a mod. but, whatever floats your boat.

Cars are not an investment. Unless you're a mechanic, and are building up a car to sell it.

actually, that depends on the car you buy. my best friends 70ss chevelle ss is a collector car. one just went on auction out here and sold for 155 g's. id call that an investment. if youre a collector of cars, not a mechanic, you can make good money on it.

I am not pleased about teh direction this thread has taken. The general tone of discussion has slipped below our standards a couple of times. Not enough to lock it , but I ask members to read their posts at least once before pushing the submit button .

Thanks.
