Ok guys, I swear I searched for this and nothing revelant came up. I am looking for the correct oil to use for a pretty much stock SR20DET. I heard 5w30 was ok. Is there anyone who could tell me exactly what they use (and BTW I am in houston so it never gets really cold down here)? thanks in advance,

Ryan

5w30 is fine. as long as you stick with synthetics you'll be fine. i put mobile 1 synthetic 5w30 in my car all the time, coupled with a K&N oil filter (#20008)

i donno, the first oil i put in my sr was 10w50 to work out all the nasty **** that could have gotten in my motor during shipping. in a few hundred miles i will be changing to a thinner oil..

15w30 synthetic. Mobile One

Its designed for performance and turbo engines. It rocks.

I haven't seen the 15w30 but I just started using Mobile One 15w50 and it seems fine.

If you're running for the first time, run natural thicker oils. The thickest I've seen locally available was 10-40 for naturals. When you switch to syn after the 500mile break in period, use the 10w-30. If you feel you need something thicker, try the 10w-40. From the s14 FSM for the SR20DET that's floating around, I remember seeing 10w-30 so I figure you can't go wrong with that. But might want to give a variety of oils a shot to see which one you like the best after the break in period is over.

Well this is not a "break in" engine, I had this in my car before and it went to my friends car and now its back in mine. I already put it in I was just wondering what oil was reccommended. Maybe a Moderater could make a sticky or put that in the SR20DET info since it seems no one has a "definite" answer.

if its a used engine you dont need to break it in, unless you replaced all the internals.

winter= 0W-40 synsummer= 15w-50 syn

this was recomended to me by fred (palmerWMD), our local oil guru.

Supposedly there are brands that are much better than others too but i will have to search for the thread to find out.
