Well I've been searching for a while and I've found a s14 -s20det that came with a automatic trans from the factory. My car currently came with a sr20det 5spd but the motor has blown piston rings. I wanted to know if I could swap just my 5spd Motor for the automatic motor? My car currently has a s14 sr20det 5spd. I dont want to swap to auto I just want to use the motor. Both motors are s14 sr20det.

What kind of mods would I have to do? If anyone has detailed info & or maybe pics that would be great.

Is this even worth buying or should I keep searching for a 5spd swap?

Thanks for all your help!

if you have the chance to get an automatic sr20, get it. It should be in better condition than a manual sr20 engine, just because people generally dont drive auto cars as hard.

The only thing you will have to change is the pilot bushing. You will have to take the auto pilot bushing out and install the manual pilot bushing in. It is a huge pain in the *** just to give you a warning.

well thats GREAT to know. Not so great about the pilot bushing? So how do I change that & where is that located?

Again thanks for all your feedback.

The pilot bushing goes into the crankshaft where it meets the trannys input shaft. You use a pilot bushing removal tool. I used a slide hammer. be carefull inserting the 5 speed pilot bushing. I heated up the crank(making it bigger while hot) and left the pilot bushing in my freezer all night (making it smaller while cold)then used the old pilot bushing to tap the new 1 in with a hammer(you could use a socket).

Hello All,

Im back with questions. I finaly got the replacement motor!! Complete Sr20det motor that came out of a car equipped with a automatic transmission.

Well, based on what everyone said above the install should be very straight forward. However I did notice a few differences in the motors. The motor I currently have in my Silvia (zenki) is the original motor that came with the car. From what I was told the motor Im going to swap came from a 97 Silvia.

One of the difference I notice is the throttle body has one connector and the other motor has two? Could someone tell me I need to swap throttle body? I've posted pictures of both motors so you can see the differences.

My current motor

The replacement motor

The other difference I noticed the replacement motor has a tube that runs from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold. Im not sure if this is an EGR valve? And would I need to change or block these off? would there be an difference if I didn't change it?

Also is there anything else anyone could think of that I might need to change?

Thanks again!:biggthump

yeah someone forgot to tell you about the tps...THAT on your throttle body is the TPS my friend....you can swap it out but make sure the voltage on it is set at .45v at idle...if not your car will run like crap...also...make sure you get you old maf and put it in the new motor alone with the ecu and harness...because if not then that car will run like crap....and your old harness make sure you put it on your new motor and ANY PLUGS that dont fit your old harness just swap it out with the old motor...im sure all your electical parts are fine...im not sure if the o2 sensor matters...i think they are all the same but check it anyways...autos just have its little differences...if i think of anything else ill let you know...any questions feel free

Yeah maybe.. pm and make me an offer. If I did sell it would only sell the trans though. The block is going in my car.

The only other part I have is the complete wire harness. I think I might have a ECU.

yeah, I know strange they had that setup. Although I do have an original Silvia brochure from Japan where they show the power rating on both auto and 5spd were the same. Works for me I just need the block.

Im sorry for the delay. I just swapped the motor over the weekend. As the the auto transmission Im going to keep it for now. If you wanna try back later I should have everything ready to sell. Keep in mind this trans is VERY heavy so shipping will not be via crate.

So the swap is complete but Im having some issues.

1. When I first started the car the car idled @ 2000 and wasn't dropping. Then after about 5 min the idle started to jump to 1800 and back up to 2000. I checked all my pugs and nothing is disconnected except for one small pug under the throttle. (since my other motor was from a zeki It didnt have that extra plug. Ill attach a picture) I also have two vacuum hoses that go to the evac canister but my car didn't have one when I got it. Should I locate one & connect the hoses or plug the hoses? Could that cause my idle to jump?

2. Im getting smoke from the exhaust side. I know I have some leftover oil that was on my down pipe from the last motor as it had bad valve guides. I probably should have cleaned the down pipe but I figured it would burn the left over oil quick. The turbo is spotless with no oil dripping so should be good.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Here are some pics.

Zenki Silvia

Original motor & replacment motor.

This motor had bad valve guides. The bottom end is good though. As you can see it was leaking tons of oil.

Oil was spilling into the exhaust & coming out the tail.

Ill post more pics later.

Yeah i recommend getting any sr that came auto..haha No one likes to beat on an auto. my s13 blacktop was auto. the only thing I noticed was this metal insert where the input shaft goes into the crank..I actually had to bore the hole bigger because a 5speed pilot bearing didn't fit.

I wouldn't mind doing a sr auto but set it up for dragracing
