somebody on here had a similar problem recently, I think he switched ecu's and that fixed the problem. Also you try listening to the injectors and testing ignition coils etc. before buying parts.

does anyone else have problems with coil packs or ignitor chips going bad on them?? Does this happen often? would it cause the power loss or surging?

I had this issue last week, and for awhile. Ended up being my ECU, I shorted it out. Also, try getting a noid light and making sure your injectors are all firing. Check for injector leaks as well

I've only ever had one coil pack go bad on me. It was intermittent too. It would cause shuddering at constant throttle applications and bog the car down under acceleration. It still produced spark, just not enough of it.

Sorry I guess I'm so used to the coils on my maxima always going bad and causing intermintent misfires out of nowhere.

O.P. how long ago did you complete your swap? has it always been like this or did it just pop up?

When I had an issue it turned out to be the wiring harness for the coilpack rather than the coilpack itself.

Ok I checked and didn't see any leaks on the injectors. I bought the car with a professional swap that had 3000 miles on it and it has 550cc injectors.

What is a noid light and how do you use it?? Im trying to search for it now.

What is a Subie??

I was in my friends sti this weekend and i guess I never thought about it but it kinda did sound like his subaru. there was also heavy vibration anytime a load was put on the engine when driving it. What does that mean?

The noid light will flash if the injector opens. Its like a little light bulb connected to 2 pins, just stab them in the back of the harness of the injectors. You should be able to pick them up at a auto parts store.

If it did turn out to be a bad coil pack (hoping its not the ecu as in your case) where could i get a new one? were there any other cars that shared the same coil packs we use?

I am also interested in why redtop91 asked if sounded like a suburu.

Why dont you try swapping coilpacks with one that works?? See if the problem still continues, or if it in fact is the coilpack.

That's just me trying to confirm the sound that your car was making. I have a feeling that your problem is similar to mine. Disconnect your coilpacks and check the male and female sides of the plug for a greenish powdery residue.

everything checks out in the end (ie, spark, fuel, coilpacks, ignitor) check the lifters. I had the same problem and it was a collapsed lifter.
