I have about 20 or 30 requests for my 5 original SRs coming in, they grow daily, I usually cut that down to about 1/4 are actually interested in purchasing right away, so I figure 7-10 actual buyers right away. I budgeted to sell 1 engine a month, looks like I"ll be selling 3 or 4 a month, easy. I haven't had any problems attracting demand at $2200 dollars, and I don't forsee any difficulty.
The reason that those eBay engines don't sell is because a lot of people are afraid to buy off of eBay. I will never sell an engine on eBay unless I absolutely have to ditch it and I don't care how much of a loss I take. Most of those engines aren't quality, are missing pieces, and have no warranty or guarantee. They are suspect so actual buyers don't bid. Anyone who's actually interested in buying usually pays for quality.
The Japanese don't get frequent oil changes, because putting on 10k kilometers per year is reason enough to only get 1 oil change, that information just depends on how you look at it. Sure, 1 oil change per year doesn't seem like much, but the cars don't go that far.
Most of the engines that get treated like **** are thrown away, or they end up being imported to a lot of the guys that sell on eBay. : ) Also, a lot of the eBay guys are in Japan, so you have to watch out because the 300 dollars shipping only sends it to a seaport. You have to pay customs and land shipping in the US as well, which is also why a lot of people don't bid. SRs are pretty common Japan, because to them its a domestic, its like going out and finding a ford or chevy engine here. Its not that hard to find quality so long as you handle the matter yourself.
