you can pay off the technician.

other than that, no. since the engine is not sold in the US (with the exception of 3rd parties for "off-road usage") it is illegal for use in street-driven cars. sorry, but i'd bring an extra $100 with you to the smog station

werd. its getting harder to find stations who'll do it.i suspect in a few years all 240's in California will be required to goto test only stations because so many sr20 swaps are occuring.

paying off the guys is a lot harder nowadays, since the computers are connected directly to the DMV and the State of California. so while the guy can fab you up a phony cert, the computer still sends that FAIL to the DMV and the State.

EDIT: the way to get around it is to register it out of state (ie nevada or arizona). this is so common that nevada has set up a $300 fee for california residents to register their cars in nevada, and its labeled as such

I swear that if I ever get posted to California with the Air Force I have to find a way around that. But it might be even harder.

Many times for bases to grant you a permit you HAVE to be emissions tested. Example: I had an internship in Dayton Ohio at Wright Patterson AFB. Ohio requires emissions checking only for the major municipal counties. So you could just live in the next country over (only a few miles from WP since it is near county line) and forgo emissions checks. However to get a pass to go on base with your car you HAVE to have it emissions checked no matter where you live.

So I suspect bases in Cali (Edwards) would not be overly thrilled with me bringing in a "Nevada regitered California resident" car.
