Hi all,

Am new here. Got a problem which i hope someone can help

I drive a 1989 240SX with a S13 SR20DET BlacktopSome items i have...Motec M800 ECU with MAP sensorOgura Super Single ClutchBlitz ID boost controllerGreddy turbo timer

The problem:Recently, my engine keeps stalling. Whenever I clutch in, the engine dies. Some times on cold and warm starts, engine dies immediately after starting. Even more recently, at a huge jam, my engine died a few times and at each crank, turbo timer showed a decreasing voltage until it hit 9V where the car was totally dead. Friend had to jump start for me.

Next day, battery was full charged and car started as per normal.

Some friends and I feel that its the idle valve thats dirty and I'm getting it cleaned tomorrow but is that the only problem?

Why does the voltage drops so drastically with each crank? Could the battery/alternator be screwed cos the next day, voltage was normal?

Many thanks in advance bros. Would appreciate it if anyone has a clue to whats wrong...

Sounds like a tuning issue to me. You have a full standalone. Get someone who knows what they're doing to have a look at it.

erm...the M800 is a full standalone.

will check the settings after cleaning the idle valve but somehow i didnt think it was the tuning because it only happened not too long ago and if it was the tuning, it shd have gone haywire long ago rite?

Thanks for the idea though

hey bro...

i dun think its the clutch install... could u elaborate?

cleaned the idle valve already... car doesnt die at all now... but idling is a bit rough... supposed to be at 1300rpm...but it goes from 900-1500rpm when starting at stationary. Could it be due to my tomei poncams?

Does your standalone have a Idle learning stage like the Power FC. If you dont let it setup the idle right then it will bounce around like that. Buddy had that problem with his HKS 264 Stage 2 cams cause he didnt let the idle stage setup.

I have a PowerFC and mine stalls as well. What do you mean an idle learning stage? At what point does it not let the engine stall anymore?? Ive been running it for awhile and it still does the same thing. Is there some function in one of the menus to set this up, or to change it?

What I mean is when you first start the car there is a 30 min setup you have to do with the POwer FC so it can poperly learn th idle of your car.

Read it here http://www.apexi-usa.com/pdf/p...7.pdf on page 12

Also with cams yo migh want to increase the idle a bit to 850 or so.

erm...the M800 doesnt have a idle learning stage.. it has almost everything to tune the idle; from idle min/max to starting position etc etc... Had a look at the software, its beautiful!!

as for my problem, cleaned the idle valve, and i just tweaked the m800 software...working like a charm and idling at 980rpm now

Well I have a problem then. My car was running like *** when I first started it up because the guy who helped me put it in rushed the install and alot of stuff was loose and whatnot. So a couple of days later I tightened everything up and the car ran great. Unfortunately, it still likes to stall and whatnot becuase I never did the self learning idle. Is there any way to reset the ECU and redo the self learning idle? omg I hope someone knows.... The manual doesnt say anything about that.

Ok, well I called Apex'i and they hooked me up. Just in case someone needs to know how to do this, you use the commander, and go to the ETC menu, then go to User Data Init. or whatever its called. Its the last choice in the ETC menu. It will reset all of the "self learned" ECU settings and allow you to redo everything. Im not sure if it redoes ALL changed info in the ECU or not. It might change everything back to stock but Im not sure, but you can call Apex'i and theyll let you know. Unfortunately my car is still trying to stall. I'll have to keep messing with it.
