I have a 1995 200sx se-r that needs a new engine. A while back I messed up my engine in my 200 and caused internal damage. It would cost me almost as much to have it rebuilt as it would for me to get a much newer engine for my car. I've been debating whether to get the non-turbo sr20de red top or just go ahead and get the det. Both will supposedly drop right in to my car with no extra mods. I'm talking about the det that fits the FWD/AWD transmission. I'm wondering if there's any extra stuff that needs to be done with the det to make it work. For example, if it will fit the exhaust I have now. It comes with a turbo manifold, I'm wondering if that will fit my down pipe. I'm also planning to replace my clutch, I'll need a stronger one with this swap. Does anybody have any recommendations for me? I found a pretty good deal where I can get an SR20DET Red Top for about $1100 shipped. That's with an estimated 25-35,000 miles on it. The non turbo would come out to about $970. Any input or ideas will be appreciated. thanx

If you want the power and have the money/time, go for it.

Your stock exhaust will not fit. You will need an aftermarket dp and catback anyway because of the added flow. If you're staying at stock boost, 2.5in will do, but 3in is preferable, otherwise you need to go 3in.

There are plenty of clutch setups - ACT, Clutchmasters, Spec, etc. Just go for one that fits your power needs, that info will be on their websites.

Hey thanks for your input. I think the 2.5" exhaust will do fine for me. I don't plan on raising the boost much more than stock. And I've looked at several clutches and pretty much know what I need there. Now, about an ecu, I don't think I can use my stock ecu, can I? And I've had people tell me I'll need a boost controller...?I'm still kind of a noob when it comes to turbos to bare with me. I want to be sure I get everything right.

I actually found a note on my car today from some random person who was offering to buy it. haha, it's a keeper...too bad for them

JWT can tune your stock ECU to work. I don't think you'll need a boost controller. You may want a piggyback like an SAFCII for fine tuning. Talk to Jim Wolf, they'll know if you need anything more than their ECU.

Well I put my order in today for the sr20det. It should arrive in 2-5 days. I was looking into the place in tampa called XAT Racing to do the swap. Has anybody heard good or bad about them, or done any business with them?

I think XAT used to be a sponsor here... I assume they left on good terms. Run a search for them.

Well the engine came in today, it came with an AWD transmission, which I didn't think it would. That's not a bad thing though, I can always sell it and make a little cash. There's no way I'm gonna use it.

here's a few pics, hopefully I did it right and they work....

Thats exactly what you need. Transmission is useless and you probably will end up junking it, because nobody will buy it either.

Yeah, that's probably true but still worth a try, even if I have to let it go real cheap. Hey I just had an idea, I don't know if this is any good or not but I'll throw it out there. Would I be able to pull the clutch from the AWD transmission and use it in my stock transmission? I'm assuming it's a better clutch than I have now, and it's made to handle more power.

let me know what you guys think. thanks

That AWD transmission should be an automatic. So, NO.

I'm still in need of an ecu. I've looked into the JWT stuff and I'll be looking at almost $600 for mine to be retuned, I just found one much cheaper on ebay and I'm wondering if this would do the trick, it says for the 240SX S13 KA-T SR20DET CA18DET so I don't know if it will work with my sr20det, since it's a little different. let me know what you think, here's a link to the ebay listing...

It won't work, the RWD engine and harness are completely different.

I got it out of Toronto from Tiger Japanese Engines for $890. Shipping was $230 which included the lift gate service. Total was $1100 & change. The guy wheeled it right into my garage for me. The price of shipping fluctuated depending on location and I noticed it was different a few different times I checked. Only a difference of like a $15 difference though. I'm in Florida so if you're here too, this is probably an accurate estimate on shipping. One plus about buying from Canada is there's no sales tax, it makes a big difference. The website is...http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/ I hope this is helpful info.

wow, you're in FL and ordered an engine from Canada? you're brave. anyway, you should really look into the sr20forum as mentioned previously.... http://www.sr20forum.com lots of useful info and there are a lot of SE-R / turbo guys down in Florida that may be willing to help as well. good luck with your swap.

Yeah, I thought I did myself a good deed saving the sales tax for something else....that's what Canada is great for! Thanks for the advise about the sr20 forums. I've already read through a crap load of threads and pretty much know what I need to know, a lot more than I did when I originally started this individual thread. Good luck to you to with your projects, whatever they may bring!

the clutch from the awd trans. is bigger so you can't use it, get a performance clutch for the stocksr20 motor

thanks for the advise. I bought a new clutch a while back, it's a six puck stage 3 rated at about 280 hp and 260 ft/lbs of torque. Yes, it's for the stock sr20 motor
