Not sure if i'm putting this in the right place but....Theoretically, would I just be able to remove the CAS and put in a SR20DE Distributor?

Lets say the scenerio above doesn't include wiring the ECU. Lets say in this case an ECU doesn't exist. Theoretically it should work right?

I want to convert to Distributor type ignition

Thanks

Why would you want to convert to a distributor setup??? Also, in the real world, it will be a pain to convert.

cheaper than having to replace a coil or a ignitor chip would be my guess

Right, this is what I need to know how to do. So I could just put in a Distributor from a SR20DE (RWD) into where the CAS would go right?

The reason for this isn't cause of price....

It's because my car is running a Holley Commander 950 Pro EMS. The Stand alone doesn't allow for control of DIS type ignitions. I would like to be able to control timing with my ECU but it only allows for Distributor type ignitions. Currently, I'm running an MSD Dis Stand alone system to control timing, but this system doesn't allow for boost retard and I don't like having two systems controling things seperatly.

It's too expensive to rip out the Holley and put in a different Stand Alone and go back to the stock Ignition.

The Commander is a GREAT EMS system. Just gotta have it controlling everything.

ANY input would be appriciated.

Thanks

Use RWD SR20DE distributor, coil, etc.

Trigger off ECU.

Might be able to use FWD SR20DE harness connectors, or KA24DE harness connectors.

i would just stay the way it is

i mean direct coils/ignitors are being used more and more these days on newere vehicles from my experience...a lot of 05 vehicles run this way, first hand...my 05 silverado...i was shocked when i popped the hood and saw it

I don't have a coil on plug and ignitor setup right now. I do NOT have the stock SR20DET ignition. I have a stand alone MSD. I will be removing that and want a distributor ignition

Okay, well I guess since no one has probebly done this conversion (since i posted about this on 4-5 different sites) I guess only thing is to try.

Found a distributor from a RWD SR20DE. I'll try it out once I have it and update.

Nismo_Freak told you how to do it. It should not be very difficult. Back before sr20det parts were easier to get (years ago....) thats actually how most people got their setups running. (by using the ignition system off of the KA)

Thank you! I didn't see this reply. That's all I needed to know. Just wanted to make sure that I can do it. So I can just put in a distributor from a RWD SR20DE where the CAS would go in a SR20DET and hook it up that way correct?

sr20de or ka24de. as far as i know they are the same distributor. if not the same, at least interchangeable. and yes thats correct, just pull out the cas and insert the distributor and then wire to the specifications of your Holly EMS.

So you're saying that the KA24DE distributor is the same as, say... My SR20DE's? (it's an S14 SR20DE)

They both work on a DET, so my sources say yes.

Distributors aren't cheap parts so it wouldn't surprise me.

yes, the KA dizzy will work just fine. Just make sure you are using the OEM coil and all that other jazz. I don't honestly see the point in converting it....but it will work. Unless your going megasquirt the coils are a better bet.

Hm, that's interesting. Well, at least I can add that to my list of interchangable parts for my SR-DE.Is the cap and rotor the same on both too?

So I bought a DOHC RWD KA24DE distibutor, and yea, it doesn't fit!

The shaft doesn't go into the hole (haha :|).

Also, it looks like if i was to put in the distributor, the shaft would be too long and would go pass the CAS gear.

Any other thoughts?
