Should I? I know I'm going to run into problems going from FWD to AWD but where there is a will there is a way. Any thoughts? Sugestions? I defently want to wait until the warrentty is over with unless I strike oil in my backyard some how.

OMFG SEARCH is your bf, and quite honestly I am pretty tired of these posts popping up. Do you realize how much this would cost you, and that you would not be able to have it legally registered in CA. The CA smog referee would fail you upon VISUAL inspection. I know a guy that put a B20 from a CRV into his Integra, and spent well over $15,000 on the swap to have it done right, JUST to have a RWD Integra. Do you think that this is practical with a car that is only a year and a half old? Geez man, I could see if you were filthy rich that you would have it done in less than a week, but dreaming and not doing anything and actually having some proof that you are doing it are two different things, and quite honestly I am kind of tired of everyone thinking this car can easily be swapped LEGALLY and CHEAP. Why not take the $15,000 you spent on the V, and the extra $15,000 you are going to spend on custom parts and mods and buy yourself a new Mustang GT, or something that comes with POWER and is more accommodating to mod for performance as an everyday driver. OR buy yourself a 240 or something cheap, I think $30,000 would go a LONG way with a 240, and it is already RWD.

Yes, this is a dead horse topic Clipsed, but that's a bit of an overreaction... so be nice to the noob.

Lain - in a nutshell: no.

1. I can do the swap myself.

2. I dont care if it is legal or not. I use to work at a 240sx shop I can take this motor in and out in a day. Im just worried about the transmission.

3. I already went though spending about 8g into my old 240 and trust it was fast.

o and 4. I usually use the SEARCH for everything...just didn't for this one...how weird is that.

Well, you would certainly have a Versa with something unique, even if it would be a trailer queen at that point.

Ultimately the decision is up to you.

My vote is still no, not prudent.

my bad EV, but it kind of makes me scratch my head how there are soooo many people that have sooo much money to drop this motor into a car that just recently came out. I mean you know what I mean? I mean it has got to frustrate you at some point. If you were looking for a fast RWD car, then why in the heck did you buy the V in the first place? I mean comon bro, let's be realistic here, unless you were doing something like this for straight track and a trailer car, then why do it? It makes no sense, it is ILLEGAL, and the way that Cali is cracking down on street racers, why risk your brand new car? I mean, IMO it seems senseless, and just plain dumb, but if you do it, and prove it, IN PERSON, more power to you.

He didn't state it was for street racing, although if he did the swap and used it on the streets I would want to beat him WITH the dead horse...

If he wants to make an example of how you CAN reengineer a Versa, great.. it would be interesting to see. I'd also love to see how it performs ON A TRACK..

And be glad you're not in the 240 forum. At least we only get this question once a month or once every two months... lol

Would definatley say no. Since ruining a perfectly good warrantied car would be crazy.

I don't think you would get the AWD to work. Just put a FWD transmission on it if you really wanted the extra power. But if it were me, just get a B13 SER and have a better handling car that would be way easier to swap and to get registered/smogged (even though CA sucks for that).

haha, no kidding. Im just kind of tired of it being brought up like they are going to do it with the snap of a finger. Like they have the money to do it, when I am quite sure they don't, thuss the reason they probably bought the Versa in the first place, as it is quite affordable. I mean instead of this being brought up AGAIN AND AGAIN, I would like to see someone get off of their hopes and dreams yellow bus, and get on the bandwagon of actually DOING something. But I know one thing is for sure, and that is that no matter how many posts of this come up, I am 100% sure that nobody has the **COUGH** to do it no matter how much it is talked about OR brought up WHILE they still are under warranty which I quite honestly find RETARDED.

I happen to love the idea. BUT, you'd be better off using the drivetrain from the new Sentra SE-R. QR25DE rated for 200HP. Why? the two cars are similar in design, and the engine compartments should be similar in size, and layout. I think. You'd first have to drop $20k for a new Sentra SE-R to scrap for parts... Just drop a small block in it instead.

I think the QR25 is a better idea as well. Both the Versa and Sentra use the new MR engines. I think that's the code anyway. I'm pretty sure the difference between the 18 and the 20 is a few internal parts. With that said, swapping from the Versa to Sentra would be nothing since they are the same, it should be mounted the same way as well, in that the mounts would not need to be in a different place. If that's true and Nissan can swap in the QR engine, I would think the QR engine mounts would be aligned properly for the Sentra and therefore would be aligned properly to fit the Versa. Now I have no idea about the accessories mounted to the engine and if you would still be able to have A/C and what not. You can probably get an older Altima engine from a junk yard or something easier than the new ones. Granted the Altima was 175 HP but you'd still have 175 lbs/ft which would launch the Versa!

Yes, you could do this. You could also paint a pig's hooves but why?

A project such this-if you're asking the question, then you already know the answer yourself.

i say go for it. its your car and your bucks. make it a learning experience and let us know how it goes. sometimes the best reason to do something is because nobody else has.
