I am finding myself AGAIN in need of a new engine for my S13. I have a GTX2867R turbo and would like a complete engine that was purpose built. I have really only found 2 options, one is on Raw Brokerage and the other is the Tomei Genesis. The Genesis is way out of my price range unfortunately but I don't have any firsthand experience in engine building or race engines.

Does anybody have experience with this engine:

Or does anybody have other crate engines for under $10,000 that they know of?

What is happening that you are looking into going this route?

My opinion is buy another stock engine, take it to an engine shop and have them rebuild with aftermarket rods and pistons and cams and good head gasket. You'll end up under 8400 all day long still if it's a competent shop that doesn't gouge.

My wife wants me to get a "NEW" engine but the only "NEW" one is the Genesis. Since that is way out of the budget, I am looking to find a total build. I was told that I am allowed to do this one time and I better do it right. So I realize I could fix my problem for a few thousand but since I "only get one shot at this" I better go with a fully built engine. The current engine has rod knock and piston ring failure.

I would build the current engine with the best of the best. Where are you located? I have a local engine builder up my way that builds a lot of Subaru and Nissan race engines. I see lots of GTR builds go across his FB feed. Look up Larry's Auto Machine at www.larryspower.com

I'm about to move to Montana and will be doing this in July once I get moved. I'm assuming that there will not qualified shops in Montana so I am not opposed to trailering the car to the most qualified place.

That shop looks legit. What experience do you have with their engines?
