when i hear srtdet i think of 3 types of them. the s13, s14, s15. Now how exactly do these 3 differ besides the power from them. As is the s13 a type/year/model different from the s14. Just what is the history of them and what exactly the codes s13/14/15 mean in context to a silvia. Im pretty sure its not a different kind of engine model. Im just confused out of my mind and i need a little bit of guidence. Im a big newb when it comes to 240s and silvias and i need HELP!!! i just don't wan't any newb jokes or insults. I just want to know the facts

First off, s13/14/15 are different models of the 240sx just like there is a Lancer 7 and 8. Both are lancers but different models, thus different engines. s13's are usually refered to 240sx's years 89-94 and s14's 95-98. s15's obviously are those 99 and up. Why did you want to know about SR20's? They are illegal throughout most of the United States and are not the engines of US 240sx's. Are you looking to buy a 240sx sometime in the near future?

Yes im looking for a project 240sx prob a 95 and i want to drop one of those engines in it. With them being illegal... well if thats bad then i don't wanna be good. Just because their illegal doesn't matter for anything to me. i just want to learn more about them so i can know what direction my project needs to go in so that i don't go off and waste money on somthing i really don't need in the first place. I just need options and advice on what to do so if anyone has info on the engines or a cheap, crappy 240 for sale that i can use for my project car then the help will be appreciated. (the 240 car engine doesn't even have to run by the way)

probably to do a swap i would assume?

the difference is really hp and age, obviously the newer engines are going to be less worn. aside from that the s14 and 15 have variable valve timing, which you lose that advantage if you swap the cams anyway, and the s15 engine has a 6 speed transmission

With proper turbo tuning, you can easily hit 300 whp before even thinking of cams. I believe someone mentioning that The S14/15 engines with VTC have better midrange.

s14 and s15 are pretty much the same motor other than transmission, turbo, injectors and tuning.

If your going for big power, its cheaper to start with the S13 SR and do a full rebuild.

Welcome to nico by the way. Glad to have you aboard

Haha, lucky you. Living in GA must be nice. I wish I could swap an SR. Haha, believe me, I am not the kind of person who follows rules, nor care about them. I have my own opinions and reasons. Because I live in SoCal, swapping an SR would get my car impounded, especially in my area where the cops recongize them. I couldn't care less about such trivial and retarded laws that make engine swaps such as this illegal (harms nothing and does nothing but make people like me ). If I could find some way to swap an SR without getting my car impounded, I would do it without a second thought; however, I have yet to find a way. I have even considering registering my car in Nevada and switching to a Nevada liscense plate, but I'm not sure if even that would work. I have even looked into swapping RB engines since cops don't recongize them here, but as of right now, I can't afford it. Also I just wanted to say good luck with your project car. My 240 is a 95 also and it will be my first project car as well . Whatever you do to your car, please post here and let us know.

O yea, welcome to NICO.

SRs are legal for offroad use only in the US. It's illegal to put in a car that is intended for street use.

Didn't stop me! Unless you don't care about money either don't even consider the S15 motor. Same as the S14 except transmission, larger injectors and an inconel turbine on the turbo. Differences b/w the S13 and S14 are: S13s come in red top and black top. The red tops are older ones 91-94? the black tops are the ones from 180sxs 95+ If you get a black top, it will bet the same age as the S14 motors. S13 SRs also come with a T25, the S14s come with a T28. S14 motors also have a black valve cover, but there is a physical hump you can see, so it is also called a notch top. S13s use high port design and S14s use low port design.http://www.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=59346 for more info
