My 240SX S13:

1996 SR20DET Blacktop
Garrett GT2871r .64 turbo
Apex PowerFC standalone ECU
Nissan oem 740cc injectors
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Sard fuel regulator w/ gauge
Splitfire Direct Ignition Coils
Flex-a-lite fans
Koyo radiator

After drifting my S13 for some time, the SR20DET wouldn't start. The oil temp was around 80 deg C and the coolant temp was around 95 deg C. After waiting for 1-3 min, my car started fine with 0-1 cranks.

When I tried to start my car, there was battery but no cranks.

When the engine was not running the battery voltage was around 13 volts.
When the engine was running the battery voltage was around 12 volts.

I heard the fuel for the injectors (I believe that is the sound).

I replaced the coolant temp sensor already.

Some people said I should replace the starter. They said maybe because the coil was too hot to make contact, so I couldn't start my car.

What could be the issue?

1) Battery
2) Alternator
3) Starter
4) ECU tune

What are you suggestions?

Thanks!

Sound like you have possible suspects there...

Sounds like your battery is ok though as it holds 13v on its own.

Your alternator is a problem is it only generates 12v at idle... I would look into that... are you measuring that right?
Something might be drawing on your voltage really badly... maybe a short.
If your battery holds 13v though, this should not affect your startup.

Your starter is always a possibility.

If your ecu tune is bad, that is a whole other set of possibilities.

Have you started the usual tests for your starter and alternator?

get your alternator tested. is your battery relocated to the trunk? if so what gauge power wire did you run?

When I tried to start my hot engine, there was electricity for the instruments but no click sound.

I went to Autozone to test my battery, alternator, and starter. The Autozone person told me that the battery is fine. It reads like 12.89V. He said if the battery is above 12.6V, it's working fine. However, something is draining the battery. According to Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_battery), the battery should read 13.8 to 14.4 V.

I told him that there was no click sound when I tried to start my hot engine. He said maybe it's the neutral safety switch. The previous owner did the auto to 5-speed conversion. I need to know more about the neutral safety switch. Will the heat mess up the neutral safety switch?

Well,

See if you can bypass the neutral safety switch by making a direct connection at the starter...

Do a search on how to find a short circuit in your car/...
basically put a multimeter between your battery ground (-) terminal and the ground cable (-) and measure the current draw if there is one...
If there is one, remove your fuses one at a time... if there current draw goes down, then there is your problem.
See if removing your neutral sensor switch has an effect.

Another possibility with not starting when hot, was a bad starter... I rebuilt it and all fine.

Make sure you post your results.
