1992 240sx redtop SR20DET swap completely stock, only has a downpipe and hks bov.

today going onto the highway my sr20 was bogging down and then it was acting like it was making no boost. sluggish as hell. backfiring and the works. I pulled into my buddies cul-de-sac and it almost died, could barely idle. it was making a terrible metallic whining noise (really hard to describe) and I couldn't really locate the source. either a pulley or from the head of the motor. i shut it off and let it sit and it fired back up with no issue. I then drove it around for the rest of the night with no issue. It has a weird kind of burnt smell from the exhaust now which is also hard to describe lol. so what the hell happened?

also, my car won't heat up inside when sitting. it's -35 Celsius and i'm f*** freezing! temp gauge reads normal and doesn't fluctuate. It heats up to a luke-warm temp when the revs are up (like on the highway) but never really gets comfortably warm. heater core?

thanks guys

Did you check to make sure there's enough coolant in the radiator? And how old is the thermostat?

no idea how old the thermostat is. I topped up the coolant a bit into the rad this morning and it seems to be heating up better now.

I was just driving around with my buddy and there seemed to be smoke kinda seeping in from the interior of the car. It didn't come from the vents but from behind the front center console like my clutch was burning, or something, but I wasn't power shifting or clutch kicking or anything like that. also my BOV isn't functioning as well as it did before. Seems like I have a boost leak but all the piping is tight?

Well after doing some research and asking around I have a suspicion the turbo has bit the dust. I will check tomorrow and post an update

A T28 will fit with no problems. Most T28 framed turbos have the clocking of the intake inlet/outlet slightly off from the T25, but there are enough adapters available on the market. Or you can get T28s that use couplers instead of bolt on tubes.
