HI all,

I have couple questions regarding and S13 blacktop engine.

I got one and I installed it in a 1990 single came 240sx. I managed to wire every thing up according to heavy throttle. However, The ecu I am using is labelled as "E5". Cylinder # 2,4 have no spark, I have ohmed out the ignitor and it measured good.

1) My question is, I heard that I can use an s13 red top ecu on a black top harness, do I need to repin or modify any wiring or it is just plug and play.

2)When wiring a black top harness, is there any difference compared to wiring a red top harness?

3) On the blacktop harness beside the battery I got 2 red wires, one thin and the other one is thick, I can only see the thick red one on the Ka harness, where do you hook up the red thin wire?

I think the ecu I got is either the wrong ecu or defective as the pin for coil # 3 (spark for cylinder # 3) on the ecu side has constant 12Vs when ignition is open which it should not, and it should behave the same way as cylinder #1,2,4.

4) Any one knows where I can download an SR20det FSM, I got the one for an S13 with the ca18det but the ecu wiring is completely different.

Thank you,

Rafi

1)the reverse is true using a blacktop ecu on a redtop, but as redtop ecu operating a blacktop doesnt work.

2)no difference in wiring.

3)check to see that the wires arent being shorted to ground or power. the same problem happened to me and i found out that the coil pack harness was being pinched by the valve cover.

4)www.zeroyon.com

good luck with your swap.

zeroyon no longer hosts the FSMs. go to http://www.skylineking.com/ and go to his tech section

Thanks guys for the quick response.

Can any one verify that "E5" ecu is for a blacktop S13 SR20det.

Also, the link for the FSM is for the S14, but not for the S13 SR20, not sure if there is an FSM in English for the S13 SR20det, I heard that it was only available in Japan and Nissan never translated it.

Cheers,

Rafi

yes E5 is the blacktop ecu. I ran my redtop on one for a while, no prob. Also a 63 ecu (redtop auto ecu) will work, but may give you a high idle. There is a thread somewhere on here about how to mod it to work, cutting one wire off the ecu, iacv or something. I have a spare 63 sitting on my toolbox, I really should get off my *** and try it.

check the pin out for the ecu harness. when my motor came in it turns out it had an automatic harness instead of a manuel one

The vast majority of the items are the same internally. Anything that is diff you will already have or is common sense. For the S13 SR20det you can use a Sentra SE-R manual to get a good iea of how the procedures vary however since it is an electrical issue your going to have to dive in there and see wth is wrong using the pinouts and wiring colors and then just tracing over the wires one at a time. Its a pain in the rear but it is the only hard part of an SR Swap.

you more than likely have a 96 or 97 blacktop the j4 eccu harness and your trying to run it with the e5 and it wont work because the coil pinout between the two are different and you will get constant 12v to the cyl 3 coil and cause the ignitor to get hot. all you need to do is verify you have the j4 harness and repin 3 wires on the ecu plug. same thing happened to me when i did my friends swap. they just throw some ecu with the motor sometimes because they think a blacktop is a blacktop. you can im me on aim(spoolinhybrid240) and i will set you up with some pinouts and go into detail what you need to do to check that and fix it.
