I have a 96 with an Auto. I found an SR20DET with an Auto for good price. Has any one had any experience with the turbo/ auto combination? I know its not going to be as quick as a 5 speed but it still should have quite a bit more kick than the stock 2.4. What will I need to do the mods for a Auto to Auto swap.

I belive that there isn't any REAL costy mods. needed since it's and auto to auto swap. Your car will be quicker then stock but if you realy want the full thrill of the SR my best suggestion is to get the 5spd. transmission and learn how to drive stick.

I have been driving a stick for more years than I've been driving an automatic. It is my wife who drives the car once or twice a month who refuses to drive a stick. I would love to have a stick. I may just have to make the car off limits to her and do it right. But then I have to buy her a car to go with our 2000 Grand Cherokee that she drives daily. I just bought it the 240 a month ago. I am trying get little more go out of it. I'm not going to be doing any racing.. Offically that is.. I was just curious what I could expect as far as gains with the SR20DET/Auto vs KA24D/Auto.

It's about a 50 horsepower difference.

how much is the sr engine with auto transmission? IMO i think u should either just turbo ur KA or do a manual swap with SR. I dont think doing a auto to auto sr swap is worht it...but thats just me

If your existing motor is in good shape (run a compression and leakdown test) Why not put together a turbo? For the price of a swap you can do a great KA-Turbo. It would make an awesome dragger, and your wife could drive it. (drop the boost down before you give her the keys) If i had a DOHC engine, i would have built up a KA Turbo. With an SR swap, to get great power you gotta buy a new turbo, injectors, and some form of management. Why not do that once, and on your DOHC KA?

The SR20DET engine and transmission is $850.00. They say it has 40-60,000 on it. But that is not verifiable. I have thought about the bolt-on turbo as well. I don't want to spend the 3,500. If I could get one for around 1,500 I would do it. My engine has 115,00 miles on it but it runs perfect and has plenty of balls. I bought from the original owner last month for $3,500. I have a list of all maintenance it looks like it was taken very good care of.

marcusx 3500 would be more of a commercial kit type of thing. If you look into it, you can put your own kit together for cheap. You could get a t-3 manifold for a few hundred, a Z31 junkyard turbo for cheap, a junkyard intercooler for cheap, just plumb that stuff up custom style and your done. It could be done for 1500. It could also be done for 6000 if you go forged internals and nice new parts.

Another cool idea would be an RB25DET Automatic. You would have decent luck finding an Auto RB25DET and for a good price. It would be, no questions about it, freakin sweet. Even if its a slushbox. But plan on 4k or so to do that.
