So me and this guy on hybridz.org go into it about TT sr20's. I figured instead of arguing and whatever. I'd come to tehsource and ask around here. So how about it has it been done oris it impossible ? I'm pretty sure I have heard of it being done before quite a few times, but I dunno am I wrong or is the guy wrong ?

~BB~:help :thinker  :( :rolleyes

Anything is possible with enough money. Do a search, I think I remember this being discussed in the sr20 forum a little while ago. Sorry I can't help any more :(

I've seen a picture of one before... but I think it was a photoshop job. It would be a great idea if they were sequential turbos, but a typical twin turbo setup on an inline 4 cyl engine... IMHO is pretty much useless. Subaru has done it on their (oh crap the engine series has escaped me).... well one of their engines released overseas... but not on any US vehicle.

yeah TT on a 4banger would be kinda useless.. i guess u could have one really small turbo then a larger one.. not only that but it would be hard to do cuz of u only havin 4 exost ports..

Rx-7 rotaries only have 2 or 4 exaust ports and it has twin turbos

i can be done and it will work it just takes alot of money and research to get it done right. You have to know what you are doing.

It has been done several times. It is not really necessary for any other reason than the "holy craps" factor.

you can't really compare rotary to a piston motor. a rotary has more exhaust cycles per rev of it's eccentric-shaft than a piston motor has per rev of it's crankshaft. a 2-rotor engine is about the equivalent of a 6-banger. twin turbocharging a 4-banger can be done, but only hi-end power can be achieved unless the turbos are ran in series and not parellel, kinda like the prototype turbos borg warner are trying to develop. kinda more trouble than it's worth IMO. but yah, anything is possible if your pockets are deep enough.

EJ20

As for the TT setup on a SR20, it'd be purely for looks. The SR20 just doesn't really have the cubes or rev's in street form to utilize fully twins. People brought up the 4 exhaust ports. Each port sends out one pulse of exhaust gas and when you collect 4 into one turbo you get an efficient spool up. When you try to use two exhaust pulses out of a piston motor you end up losing your efficiency. Instead of the turbo vanes being hit constantly by the pulses you end up with one hitting it and then a pause. This makes for more lag. It's one of the reasons the Toyota Supra with a SP63 hits full boost a few hundred RPM later than the stock setup in parallel.

People may argue that the RB26 can use two turbos but keep in mind the following:

1. 6 exhaust ports2. stock valvetrain can handle 8500 rpm 3. 0.6L more displacement

well the RB26 only has three ports going to each turbo but that is still more than two!
