sr20de reliability vs. ga16de reliability

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Right now I'm seriously considering get rid of my GXE for an se-r and was hoping somebody could outline reasons to or not to.

The se-r I may buy is a '96 with 116k, I haven't looked at or seen it yet but I'm hoping to this weekend.

My car meanwhile is a '98 GXE with 72k, it only needs struts and new headers/front pipe to get rid of my exhaust leak. The speakers are blown but mechanically the car is very sound.

Was hoping somebody could tell me whether it's a smart idea or not lol. My main sticking point is the miles and the fact that an se-r has probably been beaten on whereas my car has never.

The main question is will the car remain stock? Modification wise and support, the ga doesn't hold a candle to the sr.

A lot of SR20's have been beat on. Ask to see maint records and any repair records. Try and find out if it was owned by someone mechanically inclined, this can give a indication of someone who " cares" about their vehicle. Let a mechanic look at it, worth a small fee for peace of mind.

With all that being said the SR is a good reliable engine and I would love to have one myself. just have not found the right one yet! So many possibility's with it like Red said, lots of support. Good luck and if you score it post pics.

Thanks for the help.

After looking at the car it had quite a few electrical issues I'm willing to deal with lol. A young kid owned and after a test drive I could tell he wasn't so great with driving stick either.

So the search for an se-r continues lol.

I really want to lol, can't ya tell?

My main issue is I'm not mechanically inclined and my friends that are I don't trust and wouldn't pay to do it because I know them way too well, and then paying a shop is out because I don't have a lot of cash on hand to do that lol.

im basically in the same boat as u r... my mom blew my engine in my 96 se-r . lol. but im basically doin the swap myself, and im no mechanic! im doing it all by the book really, my uncle has been helping, but hasnt really done much. i know it seems pretty scary 2 do it urself, but trust me it aint that hard. its fairly simple really. ill post pics soon as im almost done,.. buy this book

http://www.motortraders.net/~mtn/1/HP-5418.jpg

or the haynes repair manual

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/i..._.jpg

im using the haynes and everything is ok, but if i have questions the NICO peeps r very helpfull. u just really need the tools and a another person 2 help when u pull or drop the engine, depending how u wana do it, and a clear head. so far its taken me like almost a month, but if i were 2 have just done the whole swap knowing how 2 do it alredy i proly wouldve finished in a week tops! but im taking my time, and im learning as i go. just hang in there, ull be alrite oh and the reason im doin it myself is cus im poor 2 and i wanted 2 learn how 2 work on my car.
