I know everyone usually talks about turbos in this forum, but DE's are SR's, too. anyways, does anybody run a sr20de? it's beginning to interest me because it's a more sporty NA engine than the good old truck engine. is it worth the effort to be different? does it suck? or should i just spend my money on the KA? somebody in the US has to have a Q's conversion.

I haven't personally driven a RWD SR20DE, but I have heard that they are quite quick for an NA motor. It would also make a great platform to try and make a nice NA performer.

Talk to the guys at srshop.com and see what the have in the ways of a DE. Also, jarcoinc.com might be able to set you up as well.

What I like about the SR20DE is that it is a good 100 lbs lighter than the KA24 and has tons of aftermarket support in the NA department. I have talked to several people with NA SR's in their S13's, they seem to enjoy them.

Just remember, when shooting for a power goal, NA is always more expensive than going turbo.

ONLY IN THE SHORT TERM.... NA IN MAINTENANCE IS ALOT CHEAPER AND NA IS ALOT MORE RELIABLE WHEN RACING ON A SMALL BUDGET RACE CAR, BUT FORCED INDUCTION GIVES YOU MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK.

I'M INTERESTED IN THE SR20DE FOR A 240Z (THAT'LL GIVE THE CAR A CURB WEIGHT OF UNDER 2100 LBS FULLY LOADED, AFTER GUTTING YOU CAN SEE WEIGHTS OF SUB 2000LBS).... BUT IT LOOKS LIKE I'LL GO WITH THE KA FOR SHEER FACT THAT ITS MORE AVAILABLE AND LOWER INITIAL COST. IF ANYONE HAS ONE AVAIABLE WITH A 5 SPD LET ME KNOW.

well, realistically, large amounts of power is more obtainable with a turbo. but being a former honda guy (i know, i suck) i still prefer the throttle response and just the incredible sound that an NA engine makes. i'm not saying that picking NA to make 400 rwhp is what i'm looking for. but what i'm trying to figure out is if the SR20DE would be an engine worthy of getting individual throttle bodies and 12.0 compression.

Tomei and dozens of other pro-tuning shops seem to think so.
