hi, im new here, but dont flame me just yet...i do have an interesting question. see, im worried about keeping my car smog legal...im going to do a swap soon....im thinkin of the sr20det but i know its not legal for streets....but has anyone here made a successful swap over to an sr20de from a sentra? if so, pls keep me posted...and would it be better to keep the ka or to go to an sr20de(if applicable)? the other question i have was, does anyone know who could do a transmission swap from auto to 5-speed in NorCal, like around the bay area? thanks for the info...

umm ill try 2 help u out here. so first of all what do u drive? there are two versions of sr20. rear wheel drive an front wheeldrive. u cant really drop the fwd motor into a rwd 240sx and u ant reall drop a rwd sr20 into a fwd car. imsorrybut ur post was confusing thats why i had to ask. well if u hav a sentra thn i wud suggest swapping the sr20 from an infiniti g20 into yur sentra bcuz it will be cheaper and appropriate. and if u have a 240sx then well then rwd sr20s are still illegal as far as i know bcuz u can only import them from japan. hope that helped

oka just madeo sense n the last post let me rephrase that. u drive a 240sx and u r trying to swap the motor frm a sentra into a 240sx. well the sentra is still a fwd drive car and i dont really know about sentras having sr20s but im guessin u r talking about either the 94 or so se-r sentras or the 2001 sentra le. either wy it cant be done. unless u have a lot of money say around 10Ks or so but not worth it. u r still trying to drop a fwd motor into a rwd car.

sorry if it was too confusing, but right now im happy with my 03 spec v, but i have a 91 240 auto, sitting here, with nothing on it... i really want to do a transmission swap first though...however about the engine swap, cant you just drop in the sr20de from a sentra to the 240? and just retain the same transmission?

hmm well i live in sacramento and i have heard of like 3 or 4 companies doing auto to transmission swap for between 800 to 1500 dollars. hmm i have no idea who does it or what the company names are. there shold be a lt more in the bay area around san jose hayward and sanfrancisco. well if nobody else can help u out with that issue on this forum then i would recommend spending time with your phone book tomorrow in the transmission section. youre bound to find sumone that does it.

hmm dont know which company ur talking about. there are a couple of them here. theres a whole bunch of them operating illegally sumwhat up by sunrise and roseville by the pick and pull junkyards. i usuall go to topspeed performance. they just get the parts for you but ont install. but on the bright side the owner has 4 240sx hatchbacks. if u want to go all out with everything then this is what i would recommend. if u want to get a jdm engine swap then talk to topspeed and they will import a blacktop for about 2500$. u can get it installed at most performance shops or my mechanic will do it for you fr about 750$ if u get all the necessary parts for th swap. dont doubt him. hes new in the country and has 30 years experience working on cars. if u want jdm conversions then i would recommnd buying them from a racing shop like topspeed and getting it done at this little warehouse in roseville. russian people...very reliable and cheap labor. they currently have a project civic crx with a supra TT engine running around.

nope there hasnt been a 240sx out of the factory on the streets as far as i know. there might have been a concept version back in the days or a turbo company might have tested it on a 240sx but never heard of one reaching production or making it out of the factory. he possibly might be talking about the jdm version also known as the silvia or 180sx. or the aussie version-200sx?

hmm i dont know muc about the s12 but yea i do believe they had the ca18 and from reading another post i have learned that they did have turboes on them i dont kno what year but i do know that they did not have intercoolers in them. im not much informed on ca18s or any silvias past s13 models. im still new to the import scene so i try topick up as much as i can along the way. the guy u want to talk about ca18s would be budweizzer

hmm well u dont have to fix it up yet. just start off slow for right now. just start off with stock transmission and engine and if it isnt running then just fix that once u get time. afterwards once u are financially stable then start with fixing it up etc. i mean ive been wanting a 240sx for about 6 months but im still 16 and i just started working. im driving around in an 88 sentra ad once ill be more stable with money ill vuy myself a 91-93 hatchback 240sx. everything takes time.
