SERIOUS POST 4 Serious BIZNESS:
S13 blacktop (greater than 94 (Newer))-Usually lower mileage-Usually about $500 more expensive (because its newer)-Minor ECU changes 96-98 (interchangeable with all s13 ECU’s)-Minor wire harness changes-Larger Oxygen Sensor (still narrow band, no performance gain)
Among these differences which are correct, I have been told but never confirmed a 'redesigned' oil squirter design on the black tops. There are threads out there on this topic.
Also an obvious sign that your SR20 has blacktop mechanics or internals (such as the oil squirters) is the cooling fin design on the front of the SR head. A true redtop will have no fins, a blacktop mechanics motor will have the fins. (these fins dont really help with cooling much, they just look neat lol).If you happen to get an ecu with 62, you probably had a 93.5 SR20, which is the unupgraded ECU (easier to rom tune I guess) and the updated mechanical designs. I have one of these. It makes sense as to why Nissan made them because during 1993 they started to make blacktops, but didn't want to confuse the market by changing the valve cover color mid year.Check the Version 1 V1 SR build RIP in the sig for details.
edit: all S13 SR's have the "high stack" velocity intake runner design. The S14 motor recieved a slight reduction in the intake runner length, but IIRC s14 motors have vvt or some sort (obviously i dont care abotu s14motors because I like cams that give me all power all the time lawl).
