Yesterday I went to check out a s13 redtop clip. The engine has about 115 km (~70k miles). They said the make sure their engines have no oil leaks and good compression before they ship them here. Everything seems to be good. The engine almost looks new. The engine already has a hks intake, apex'i bov, and turbo timer (I forgot to verify the tt). It is also supposed to have a os giken clutch or at the least, some racing clutch (the guy I was talking to didn't know too much about the clip, but his partner, who wasn't there, does) already installed. They are also including everything needed to do the s13 conversion along with a full set of TEIN HA coilovers. The only problem with them is that one of the coilovers is broken (the spring part broke). The guy wants $3000 for everything.

I'm going back tomorrow morning with some more people who know more about the SR20, is there anything I should check for?

Any advice you can give will be helpful.

Thanks, Johann

GEt a compression tester and have them crank the engine. Check the oil pan for dents. Make sure ecu/igniter/maf is on the clip. Do a visuial of all componets. Is smic still there? are the rotors warped or scored? look, look , and look. For 3 Gs make sure you know what you are buing first.

sooo... 3k for:S13red topS13 front end conversion(in tact, apparently)HA coiloversand a twin-plate OS giken 2,000 dollar clutch.

somethings not right, I would verify everything ASAP, get it in writing that everything is in good condition, etc before thinkinga bout buying it. YOu are essentially getting all of that for 1/2 market value.....should set off an alarm.-chetCheck out everything, look around the turbo bearings, make sure the turbine spins freely...I think theres a FAQ about this somewhere.

Oh yea? Prove it.

Can't I get the coilovers rebuilt by tein?

Exar- I know this sounds too good to be true, but I verified it many times. That is why I am bringing quite a few people to check it out with me.

I planned on checking the turbo tomorrow, but how do I go about checking the compression?

Thanks for your responses,Johann

buy a compression testor, and you will find a thread that i posted extensivley on on how to do a compression test. If you dont do it right, then the readings will all be off. I am to lazy to search the post, but its only 1-2 months old.
