Hello! So my question is very simple. I am a total noob to 240's and swaps so I figured I would come here for help. Which engine is best/better to put in a 240? A SR20 or an RB20!? Please help!

well id say the sr because out of the box its faster plus its lighter and easier to swap it. But the rb sounds better lol. Just my thoughts.

Have you ever looked at the space to get to the bolts on the top of the trans on an rb20 in an S chassis?

SR. Even though it sounds like dookie, I'd still chose it because the engine bay is some much roomier.

Yeah well I never thought of that. Well the more we discuss it te more I am leaning towards an sr20. How much does a swap usually cost? Labor wise?

about tree fiddy. seriously, you didn't search s***. go to google, type in "sr20det install" and i bet you will come up with at least one shop's website that lists their costs for installation.

Better yet, if you look at the top of the screen there is a blinking red search button. Try pressing it and then typing something like SR20DET swap and see what happens. Don't come in here bashing the mods and telling people you've done research.

Try this too: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=sr20det+swap+price

another thing to consider in a thread like this is that most people here havent had both swaps.. so their opinion will always be that they swap they have is better....so what im saying really is *sr20det*

Isn't the RB20 just a SR20 with 2 extra cylinders and a iron block?...

I would say go SR, same displacement, easier swap, readily avilable parts, and lighter aluimnum block.

Only the RB25's and RB26's are worth the hassel of the swap.

I mean you could say that and I suppose with some hard cash thrown at that RB it will be as good as a stock SR. Yea it sounds nice, yea it's an inline 6 but it has less HP and less TQ than the stupid ricer SR. Red top and Black top SR's have 266 NM torque, S14/15 SR's have 275 nm, the RB20 has 264. RB reaches peak torque at 3200 rpm, SR reaches it at 4000. Now, this being stock for stock, why would you pick the weaker engine again? Sure the SR is used by a lot of people, but that may just be because it's a pretty damn good engine.

edit for typo

FixT.SR>RB20 because only nubs buy base model engines. (rb20 is base model poop)

IBTLSR is cooler because fanboys who ask about your car will get all giddy like omg rly U has SR20? NO WAIII! Serious.

meh, i really don't care about either, tbh. neither of my cars will be powered by any sr or rb (this also includes 25 and 26). my vote goes for a custom rwd b16 setup
