I've searched the threads but havent found what I'm looking for yet so. I have a Redtop with a t25 that is starting to tick at idle. Doesnt burn oil or have trouble boosting, but the noise is freakin me out. So I'm going to buy a new turbo soon. I want a turbo that I wont want to upgrade later. Something capable of boosting up to 20lbs that wont have a lot of lag. I want a turbo that will be fully boosting before 4000rpms for good daily driving/drift/drag. Everyone upgrades to a T28 because they spool fast, but wouldnt a t3/t4 setup be better and cheaper? I'm unfamiliar with how quickly the t3/4 spools but I know a lot of honda guys use them and they have even smaller motors so It cant be that slow with larger displacement. I'm pretty new to turbo I just recently got out of NA. So any input of the specifications of the different turbos would be great.

sence you want it for drifting drag and daily driver you dont want that big of a turbo. so a t28 or a t3t4. both of those will do pretty good

I noticed those go for quite a bit of money, how does it compare to the T3/T4 I found t3s on ebay for less then $400 from ssautocrome I think, Sounds like a good deal, but wasnt totally sure how reputable they were.

stay away from ebay turbos, lots of people had bad luck with them. Some parts need to be quality pieces and a turbo is one of them. I suggest a 2871 if you are looking for ~350whp or a GT28R for around ~300whp which will run you around $750 for a new one.

The top mount setups usually come out to cost about as much as a bottom mount setup if not more. If using a t3/t04e, you'd have to get a top mount manifold, the oil lines still, have a downpipe fabbed up(if you arent using a full race manifold, or some kit that comes iwht a dp), if its not internally gated you'll need an external wastegate, and so on.
