ok s15sr20

problem has been narrowed down to timing. i line CAS up w/ right side dot, and pully on 2nd notch from left. i've tried moving the CAS around and get some better responce. had the engine running for 5-10 seconds but soon as i pull ignition key back to ON it stalls out.

any suggestions on how to adjust the timing one way or the other?

any help is appreciatedthanx

Do you have a timing light? If not, get one. You won't know where you are in timing with just guessing as you move the CAS around.

Once you have the proper equipment, get it to 15 degrees BTDC (second notch from the right on the crank). If you're still having issues at that point, I would suggest checking all of your coil packs to make sure they're firing. Make sure you're getting gas, and then double check to make sure your ignitor isn't wired up backwards. If the ignitor is wired in backwards, it can cause the car to not start because the car is firing 180 degrees out of order (ie, it will try to fire at TDC exhaust stroke instead of TDC compression stroke).

kew thnx 4 the info.. i have a timing gun just dont know how to use it.. i thought the car had to be running to use a timing gun.. but for the s15 there is no ignitor chip they are built into each coilpack.. and yes i checked all coilpacks are working. getting spark and fuel.. its attempts to start but stalls out as i turn ignition back to on

Then the issue is in your timing. You can check timing while it's being cranked.

If you have an inductive pick up light, hook the battery leads up to their proper terminals on the battery. On SRs, there is usually a black loop of wire that sticks out of the coil pack harness in the back. This is an inductive loop that you hook the wire clamp to. If you can't find it, or you have difficulty with making it work, I suggest taking a piece of spark plug wire, and putting it up coil pack and then seating the boot on your plug. It should look like this:

I would recommend using a little tape to hold it, but once you're done, you can take it all off and continue normal use of the coil pack.

And I apologize for forgetting that there was no ignitor on an S15. Just wasn't thinking.
