Hey guys and girls this is my first time here on the thread and i just had a quick question. I was wondering if it was possible to put the sr20 throttle body on a ka24de since they dont really make any aftermarket ones, and i found a really good 70mm one for the sr. I heard that the bolt pattern is the same but will the sensors bolt up and will the linkage hook up, i dont know if anyone has done this before so any help is very appreciated. Thanks

Complete waste of time, dont do that. TB upgrades are really only beneficial if you have an aftermarket intake manifold that is designed for high rates of flow, or high RPM power production. Otherwise your just screwing with complicated well designed things and your going to mess up the motors balance.

a little more air flow wouldnt hurt though would it. I mean they make tons of them for hondas and acuras, and i know their a little more hi reving than the 240 but still. More air, more fuel, equals more power, isnt that how the equation goes.

Its a much, much more complicated equation when you talk about a daily driver thats not operating under WOT conditions all the time. If your only worried about WOT, your in a strait line car and what you say is for the most part true.

However, in a car thats meant to be reasonably streetable, you have to take into account in short, intake port velocity. The intake manifold and TB is 'tuned' for the engine to be optimal.

Long story short, switching to something like a Q45 90mm TB might gain you 5 hp up top, but you will lose power throughout the rest of the curve, have worse response, fuel economy and on/off throttle transitions.

thanks for setting me straight bro, so wat would you recomend for more air delivery for the ka, cuz my plan is to build another motor with forged internals and what not, and i really dont want to throw the stock manifold back on there if i dont have to.

All you need is a turbo lol. We got guys running 550+ hp on a stock IM.

A real, well designed intake manifold doesnt really exist for the Ka IMO. There are some decent SRI's, but thats about it.

I haven't compared them but wouldn't the SR's throttle body be smaller than the KA's? I know the flange for the intake pipe is the same but if anything wouldn't you lose power because it was designed for a smaller displacement engine?

dam thats way more than what i want, and the intake manifold is where tha ka gets most of its torque anyways since it has such long runners, i guess just a good gasket port match and some good thermo gaskets is all i need then huh.

well the thing is that company's out there make a lot of aftermarket throttle bodies for the sr20 and none for the ka, i saw a really good 70mm one thats why i was wondering.

Just adding my $.02 for people that search and see this thread...

Imagine taking a bottle of soda - a standard 2-liter bottle - with that little hole in the top and flip it upside down. It's going to pour out kind of slowly and you still have time to flip it back before it all empties out. Now imagine if the hole wasn't smaller then the rest of the bottle and you flipped it. You're screwed and have a sticky floor and a girlfriend/wife/mom/whatever who's pissed.

Now, that bottle of soda is your intake manifold and that hole is your throttle body. There are good reasons why it's that size and you never really need to think about it again. :P

Basically, you still have the same amount of soda (air in your charge pipe/air intake) but now you're emptying it out quicker. Well, what happens when you want a second glass? (I.e., stay on the gas pedal? You run out of air, and loose power because as was said earlier, air + fuel = power.)

that makes a lot of sense devil, it all goes in conjunction with air velocity and manifold pressure huh. lol stock throttle body it is.
