So with the 89 240sx the tach wont wire with the coils. Will an aftermarket tach work or do i need to wire it directly to the ECU, or will i need a specific 12v aftermarket tach, or will I only be able to get it work correctly with an adapter?

As in the website? I need a little more info then this but thanks for trying. Like a link, or something. I tried to find what you were taking about with no luck...

Doesn't anyone know if I can just use a aftermarket tach straight to the ECU or to the coils? Or anything? I mean hasn't someone used an aftermarket tach and not the 92-94 gauge cluster before??? Does anyone understand the basic layout of aftermarket tachs to know if I will have to get a special 12v one or are all compatible with 12v?

HELP!

haha I feel you. No need to waste time with pics, links are great.

This helps a little with the wiring cluster pictures, but no info on the tachometer set up at all :S. It mentioned what wire is the tach wire but nothing about the problem all SOHC 240sx swappers run into with the tach.

Unless anyone has any objections, I think I am just going to buy an aftermarket tach and try to wire it to the normal red/yellow tach wires, and if that doesn't work try to wire it directly to the ECU. If none of that works I will buy an adapter.

If anyone can help, please do! I don't want to waste money on an aftermarket tach if I don't have to.

If you are running an SR20 why not just get a DOHC cluster or just swap the tach out?

In the 240sx tech articles they have a write up on how to convert the KA tach to read the KADE tach signal. The pictures are gone but the write up is still there.

Arent you guys just over thinking this? Cant you just find the ecu tach output and wire your tach to that?

I think so.. I mean it is just a normal tach signal right? It's not a dumb variable voltage one like the KA24E is.......... I have no idea. It's over though, don't worry about it. Car is gone. Thanks for the help though.
