Hi im new here. Im looking to do an SR20 swap to my 88 240sx coupe. Just wanted to know what is a MUST have part for the swap besides the engine of course. Was already planning on buying FMIC, new clutch, AC lines and condesor, Nismo motor mounts, oil pan, and new radiator. Just want to know if there are anymore parts that i need besides the basic that are taken as a given.Appreciate any help.

Well, an FMIC is not really a "must have" part... Its more of a goody.

Have you looked into any suspension components??

uh.

get a turbo elbow and downpipe (elbow is a huge pain to install with the motor in the car)get new spark plugsnew flywheel and clutch (this is a must)redline transmission fluidditch the fmic for the side mount until you really need it

if you've doing aftermarket radiator might as well do the fans too, most swaps don't come with the mechanical fan shroud.

no brainers:new waterpump and thermostat since the motor is already out

extras:new steering rack bushings.

basically anything that is easy to replace with the motor out, replace it. it's a 19 year old car, it needs new stuff.

The only suspension parts ive really looked at are the Tein Drift spec coilovers, but those arent gonna be for awhile. Eventually want to redo the whole suspension but wanna get the engine in and get it ready to go before i go there.

Ok well let me put it this way, what are your plans for this car? Daily driver? drifter? drag? time attack?

EDIT: I should have looked at your SN a little more carefully. Maybe you should rethink the FMIC, keep the side mount, and upgrade your suspension. You'll have a heck of a lot harder time drifting your "1988" 240sx if its got a tremendous amount of body roll.

I've got my SR. It's stock. The rest of my money was thrown into suspension. Not that that says a lot, but its an example.

since its 88, im guessing u have a KA24E SOHC. unless u did a KA24DE swap. u must have a DOHC power steering reservoir and lines. Also i think u need a DOHC gauge cluster because the tachometer for SOHC wont work for SR20. might also want to get boost gauge, blow off valve, turbo timer. and learn how to maintain the engine first...

Ya i alrdy got the sr gauge cluster, planning to get a turbo timer, bov, and some other guages. By the way my budget at the moment is $4000 plan to put more in once everything is running correctly.
