i really never heard or drove or seen an sr20det (s14) untill i did mine...and i wanted to know if its normal for the engine (exhaust) to putt like a subaru impreza sti ?? i have a 3' down pipe cat catback exhaust (w/silencer) front mont intercooler greddy bov over sized oil pan gt28 turbo with lines and boosting 10psi.....is it supposed to sound like that ???

Well, Subies sound the way they do because of the unequal length headers.

Given that you've got an inline, I don't think that's concievably the case with your SR.

Does it really sound like a Subie, or is it just a deep exhaust note? Impreza exhaust notes are very distinct.

no it really sounds like a subaru......its not a soomth VROOOOOOOOOM.....its more like a PUTT PUTT PUTT PUTT PUTT all up the rpm chain..

i think i sort of know what your talking about....it has more of a raspy sound as it goes through the RPM range....my friends sr swap does the same thing....it has something to do with his exhaust flow

One of your cylinders may not be firing. My KA sounded like this when it lost an injector and was running on 3 cylinders. Check for fuel and spark across all the cylinders.

thanks guys im going to check on that tomorrow....cuz i think im running a bit rich also cuz im having some bad backfire....

If you have unburnt fuel in your exhaust, one or more of your cylinders is not getting spark. Check your plugs, plug wires, plug boots, and service the distributor cap and rotor.

its distributor-less....well i checked my coil packs and i have spark all across.....how do i check to make sure i have fuel ???

well i think i found out what the problem is........number 2 injector wasnt pluged in all the way... will that have caused too much stress on 1,3,& 4 cyclenders ??

so i drove it around and bought some fuel injector cleaner (i think its a waste of money but i did it anyways) and now it has a sputtering problem.....if it aint one thing its another.... now im not sure if its my maf or my injectors.....all i know its robbing me of a lot of power.....im not happy....
