A friend of mine is selling his heavily modified 91 hatch with an SR20 in it for a super good price, and I'm just curious as to how reliable SR20's are. If I had more time to work on it I wouldn't care, but at the moment I don't really have the time nor the money to buy a car that won't work as a daily driver for the current point in time. As far as services and stuff like that, how expensive are they when it comes to that point? I love 240's and I'd love to buy the car, just doing my homework.

All depends on how well he maintained it. My SR has been 100% reliable since 2006.

Good to hear. A rod bearing got busted when he went to the drag strip and doesn't have the money to get it repaired, so I guess that's my only worry. He's a mechanic for Mazda so I'm sure he did a good job on it, we were all talking the other day and think it was just not really that good of quality oil he was using when he went to the drag strip.

Eeee!Be careful buying someone else's problem.

Take the price of the car (w)Take the price of the parts to repair (x)Take the price of machine work (y)Take a few bucks for other stuff that you find is wrong that you didnt know about (z)

Be real honest with yourself when you are doing this calculation. Then see if w+x+y+z is really that good of a deal.Sometimes it is, most times it isn't.

Definitely, I've already done a kind of general base price of that all, he's selling the car for $2800, we were with someone who works at a shop out here who said it would cost about $500 to fix if it's just the bearing, max it will be $1000. From what I've seen it looks like that should be it, so if I'm right about that it should be either $3300 or $3800. We're going to a meet tonight so I'll talk to him about it there, see whats what.

Looks like I'm going to buy it. It's just $500 to fix it because it's just the bearing, so that's lucky. He's even throwing in a brake kit he got for it and never had the time to put it on, so score! Everyone I've talked to at meets and stuff like that knows about the car, so it'll be nice to revive a locally known car. Lookin forward to my first 240
