Hey, I'm new to this forum. I'm doing a SR20 swap into a '72 Datsun 510. I asked about this on the 510 forum I get on, but nobody really gave me a good answer. I bought my motor from http://www.nagasakijdmmotors.com and they sent a brand new wiring harness with it. Well, I've figured out where all the plugs go as far as TPS, CAS, injectors, etc. But as some of you may know, theres another part of the wiring harness that splits off, like where the plugs are for the ignitor. This side is where I'm having a problem. I can't figure out where some of the plugs go. I know 1 of them is going to go to the MAF. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's where I'm talking about they split off. The number 1 side is the side with the plugs for the injectors, CAS, TPS, etc. Number 2 is the side I'm havin a problem with

Here's the ignitor, with two vacuum things. Can I do away with the vacuum parts (1&2)?

I think one of these plugs is for the MAF

This one is right above #'s 3,4, & 5. Don't know what it is

Two more I have no idea about

Don't know about this one

And these three are on the end.

Here's a shot of the pins in #11

And a closer shot of #'s 10 & 12

Hmm well I know that a lot of those plugs you pointed out are unecessary for an s13 chasis swap, but for your 510 I can't say for sure.

I know that your 11 and 12 are 2 battery connectors

Those vacuum things are the EGR (EAI) sensor and the boost pressure sensor. Theres a debate on when this sensor is used your sr will boost up to 11 or 12, but when not used it will only boost 7 with the stock waste gate actuator spring.

Both of them are not needed for the car to run though. I took off my egr and my sr didnt come with the boost sensor so..

Anyway.. Maybe this is will help you out a littlehttp://www.240sx.ca/i/UNCUT-sr20de_L.jpg

Well I'm not going to be using the stock turbo or anything. I'm having to go top mount to clear the steering box on the 510. There's another small harness I have that went to the alternator that has plugs on it, I guess that's where #'s 11&12 go.

the fsm will help you determine whats what. use search and youll find it. like op said some are not used in s13. #3 is maf, #4 power steering pressure switch. 11 and 12 are main harness plugs that hook to chassis harness. the fsm wiring diagram will be the most helpful on doing your swap. gl

Maybe a dumb question, but what is a FSM wiring diagram?

factory service manual. you cant buy one at autozone for this motor though. use the search thing at top of page.

That helped figure out one of them. There has got to be someone out there that has been through this and knows what those plugs are. I'm about to just do away with the ones I can't figure out.

Try e-mailing Taylor Durdan. He's done an s13 sr into an 510 before iirc.

I can't remember which one he has in his profile. Here is a link to my harness repair he performed for me:

Would like to start my 510 wiring also, so I have the same questions for the most part. The FSM was only slightly helpful. Really want to know what "we" don't need for the SR into Datsun setup.

Really appreciate it. Thanks

man, you guys are really hurting my face.

first off.. just bc you know what each plug is once i tell you, doesnt mean youll know what to do with them. this isnt a matter of just knowing what does what, but you need to know how to make it all work also. there are plugs there that arent needed. there are plugs there that have some wires that are neeeded and some that arent. i HIGHLY recommend sending the harness off to have the service performed.. especially if your knowledge of the swap is limited to not even know what an FSM is. this is some pretty involved work that you will get in over your head VERY quickly.

but, starting from the top.. here we go.

the first picture:

the side of the harness labeled "2" is extremely important. this houses all your power wires, MAF plug and ignitor plugs. since this harness is made for a Right Hand Drive S-chassis, its isnt even remotely going to fit in your 510 in this configuration. it needs to be entirely de-loomed, re routed and re wrapped

Picture 2:

both of these plugs (1&2) relate to the factory wastegate control solenoid and are no longer needed

Picture 3:

3- MAF sensor4- P/S pressure switch5- A/C compressor kick on

Picture 4:

6- Service test port for a function that the US cars do not use.

Picture 5:

7- Tach test lead8- Battery + test lead

Picture 6:

9- Plug for diode (new harnesses do not come with the diode - but its not needed)

Picture 7:

10, 11 & 12 - These are your power plugs... well.. mostly. you need to know which wires do what, when and how. then you need to figure out how to make them work with your 510.

This is the best i can do for you, i have said more than enough. i put bread on my table by offering these conversion services at competitive prices, quick turn-around and lifetime warranties. let me know if i can help you perform this service.
