I have a sr20 redtop head, that i pulled from my recent spun bearing motor. And acquired a blacktop bottom end from an s14.

I cannot seem to find hard proof that the redtop head will bolt to it, i keep hearing about VVT and oil ports and whatnot, i just dont know what to make of it all. Seems everyone is doing the blacktop head to redtop block, but not the other way around, my essential question, Is. will this motor bolt up? What modifications do I have to do to make it bolt up. :ohno:

Won't work very well. The VVL oil channel will spew oil from the block as there is a missing piece of casting from the s13 head

So i block the passage on the block with a tap and screw or JB weld, right?

just don't do it unless you are going to do it right. :/ If you have to do it, just have someone weld whatever has to be blocked; then again it will be permanent if you do that.

Hrm, at this point i'm thinking drill and tap it, like they do on the heads, so if i have to un-do it, i can just take a plug out.

That sounds like a better idea, what about just finding an S14 head? :gotme

Wellllllllllllll.

I have an s13, which = all the wiring and such for one, and the s14 motor with a head that has a huge chunk missing from the top of it (out of wrecked car).

And the bottom end is all i needed. So i need to do whats necc to make my car run.

And it comes with the factory s14 turbo! ( i wonder if thats much of an upgrade ?)

It's been a while since i've had an s14 block or head apart, but i do believe the oil port in question is tear drop shaped. You can see what i'm talking about in this head gasket image. It's near the front o the motor rotated so it's facing out

the blacktop head on a redtop block is typically an s13 blacktop head i think. I don't think anyone would to the trouble of an s14 head on an s13 block due to vvt and other differences
