Your thinking WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too far in the future. Are you really going to be rebuilding your 35 year old 240? Doubtful.

Any engine can be rebuilt, if you find the right guy to do it. 240s are timeless.

The SR will be guaranteed major rebuild components for at least 8 more years from Nissan.

This is due to the fact that the SR20 engine is still being produced.

Hey Guys, I thought i'd bring up my question in an old topic, instead of starting a new one...it's just a simple question... I'm rebuilding my SR and I can't decide weather or not to go with a complete gasket rebuild kit $250.00 or just go to the parts stores and try to get my gaskets from the SR20DE... What would be cheaper?

It all depends on exactly what gaskets and seals you are planning on replacing. Some of the gaskets cannot be purchased in the US (though MOST of the RWD SR20 gaskets and seals have US crossover parts).

The kit is nice because it requires no thinking, but it can pieces you may not re-install like the oem headgasket. The kit also comes with things like valve stem seals which not everyone plans on using if the dont need new ones.

Thank you for the reply.. I think I may just go with the kit... it would save me the headache.. hehe. I am trying to get in touch with SR20Chris to see for sure if the Piston Rings, Standard Main and Rod Bearings from the FWD SR20de will work in the DET. I'm ready to order bearings and rings so I can start putting this thing together. Do you know for sure? lmk

Thanks.

the rings, main and rod bearings from the DE will also work with the DET. Chris and I have both verified this on our own rebuilds.

If you look at your crank and block, it'll tell you what bearings you need specifically.
