Here is another thing: CAs are OLD. They have been sitting for a while. I just found out that the cold start stuff SUCKS, so if you don't mind warming up your car everytime, then go for it. To me, it is no biggie. I just go start it 5 minute before I have to leave, or if I have to leave suddenly, I don't boost/push it hard for a few minutes. Not really a big deal, but something to think about.

Look at it this way though: EVERY performance engine you get suggests that you warm it up. Hell, the S54 (E46 M3) has a different redline as it warms up...

Very ture. Cam on bucket valve train, square bore to stroke ratio, better block design, etc make this very ture. The reason that the SR was born was beacuse it was a cheaper engine to produce because it is more simple. The CA is a bad a$$ engine the more one learns about it, and IMHO the best l4 turbo motor Nissan ever built.

The FJ20 is better. I love the CA and all though, almost got one.

And none of this is to say that the SR isn't and incredible engine--if it weren't, it wouldn't be nearly as popular and widely used.

My opinion is to just go with the one that's within your budget + any aftermarket mods you can get. The CA and SR have much aftermarket support and will be your easiest swaps, but as far as the RB, there may be some parts you'll definitely have to source. I've seen Blake's car with the RB in it. There is literally no space between the engine and where the radiator/fan shroud are supposed to be. Personally, i'll be going with the SR. But only because my boys already have their CA and RB swaps going on. I want to complete the circle. Unless Rob ain't going KA-T(?). I'm actually still doing my research as well... but those darn hax0rz messsed up the database and I can't use the search function. BLAH! Whichever one you choose I'm sure you will like it

i dont have a swap myself but im thinkin about goin RB20.

from searching i learned that:

$1200 from venus, direct bolt in (with some hood and downpipe trimming) or get mounts for $350 (top hat) and you don't need to trim. add an electric fan, get the 240sx speedometer recalibrated (top hat charges $100) or hook up the rb20 cluster if you know how to.

wiring is not clear yet since nobody has done a complete walkthrough yet but from what i read you hook up your 240sx lower harness and add the RB20 upper harness somehow. id be great if someone did a walkthrough btw :)

dont forget about PS and A/C. these should hook up as well with some line bending and tweaking.

please correct me if im wrong.

overall i estimated about $2000 for the complete install. you can't beat an I6. theres a reason why supras and skylines have an I6 ;)

but theres a reason there I6's arent 2.0 liters... irriguardless im doing massive research.. and i really dont want to go SR.. everyone and there brother has SR.. it seems for price + potential.. the RB is looking pretty good. but nothing like its lighter CA couterpart... very very tricky

i was thinking of the rb20 too, but wouldn't that make the car's balance off for drifting??

Dont worry about the weights, that can be counterparted. If your going rb, go rb25 :) If you cant do that, go ca or ka-t. I dont like sr's because soo many people have them and any motor that requires a piece to stop it from fucting itself (rocker arms stoppers) doesnt really turn me on.

precisely.. SR's are lame :( doesnt seem like anyone who even posted likes them.. lol.. seems like the ca has made more nut-in-pants than any other motor... but i just cant get over the idea of a I-6

SR's are far from lame and are far more capable than your wants/needs from an engine. They're light, powerful, proven, and reliable (just drop the hundred bones on the RAS's and don't drive it like a damn ricer i.e-redline every gear). They're also far simpler to install/wire than an RB. The CA has all those qualities too, but a little less stock power but the advantages of a better valvetrain and an iron block, and a cheaper price.

rb25 makes more power out the box but costs more (mounts/driveshaft alone are 1100)

but the rb20 is cheaper and with some upgrades can quickly catch up to its big brother.

rb20 all the waaaaaaaaay
