SR20 question

hi all!

im thinking of swaping engine since i have a 89 KA24e (yeah.. the sohc one..) i was thinking of swaping for a 96 and up KA24de then turbo, or go for a black top sr20.

does the SR20 pass smog? and is it street legal?

thank you much. im in the LA Orange county area if anyone knows of a shop. so far im only connected with CarTuneMotorsports for minor things.

as far as i know, the SR in any trim will have trouble passing a california smog test.

These guys did manage to get an SR to pass CA smog.

As far as street legality, I'll spell it out simple like. No. The engine was never offered on US shores under that form, so therefore, it's not a legal engine.
