I've been flogging the heck out of my motor for about 12,000 miles or so. I had some clutch problems, but that is because I had a misunderstanding about the break in parameters for my first clutch. Now that I have the kevlar clutch in there, I expect it to be going strong for a LONG time.
If you want to make an SR20 your daily driver, rebuild it. To drive something daily, you need reliability. My engine came out of a car that is over 10 years old. It's likely that yours motor will be 5-10 years old as well. In Japan, the S13/S14's are toys to be wrecked on the weekend while burning large amounts of rubber, and amazing your friends.
The motor itself at stock boost is more than enough to get you around town. With just a good open exhaust and an intake you'll find yourself with quick spool, and enough power to break freeway speed limits in 3rd gear.
