so ive weighed the pros and cons of the sr20 vs the katwhat it really boils down to, is that a kat is american, and if something breaks down on it, the parts will be easy to source, however, on the sr, id have to order various things from overseas (im talking like belts.. various things that need replacing every so often) and sadly, i dont have friends over there =P. but today i remembered that the old school sentra ser used the sr20de. now i know these have problems with the transmission, so im assuming the sr20det transmission is beefier, because i dont hear of many problems with it, but other than that, do the parts interchange? (not internals, im talkin the routine stuff: accessories, belts, etc)

The only parts that you have to get from japan would be alternator starter and I forget what else.Go to the SR forum and there is a sticky on it.

some of the gaskets are the same but as 912 said, the alt, start, and water pump i think u have to get from japan, but http://www.enjukuracing.com has the water pump and maybe a starter. but they arent that hard to find in the us anyway. looks like ur getting an sr then :)

Both engines have easily sourced parts... there are over 10 SR20DET swapped cars in Austin alone. Parts can be found if you ask the right people.

Geabox is the same as the KA gearbox... however the bellhousing is different. Therefor they are the same thing sans bellhousing.
