Ok, so my friend bought this SR hatch a couple days ago. Well after almost a day of it running good and pulling hard this happened.

Well my friend and I were racing down a road nearby when he missed fourth and reved to about 7800 and then it started running like this. Like it was being choked or something.

We thought it might have possibly been a gasket that the kid he bought it from said needed to be changed, which was the one where turbo manifold bolts to the exhaust compressor, but we changed that and it boosts a little now, but still runs like s***.

If anybody has any clue what might be going on, just chime in thanks.

Say bye bye to the motor. from my laptop it sounds like knock.

O hold up check your intercooler couplers to see if you blown or ripped one.

thats not a knock it's a missfire.

pull off the connector for the injector 1 by 1. If the idle doesn't drop down and stays the same you have found the cylinder with the missfire

+ 2.Obviously the motor is running on all cylinders. I would first do what Justin35ll suggested and then try a compression test.

Definitely not running on all cylinders, figure out which ones aren't firing and start trouble shooting from there.

If he hit fuel cut a lot, may have burnt up a plug..... Lean is the worst condition for an engine.

Also if you dont have rocker arm stopper, and it spun up to 7800, you may wanna check the top end

yea im the guy with the sr... we pulled the plugs and they were very black and smelled like gas.. we did the injector check and it just idled worse for each one i took out.... the noise is coming from the intake side of the turbo... but we checked for shaft play and there was minimal side to side play.. idk wut else to try help me out...could it be the coilpacks or because my harrness is like a home made job lmk i need this thing running

x2 on change the plugs. and also do the same as you did for the inj check, itll either show you which coil pack is shot or which plug is totally shot. but deff put new plugs in it.

Save some money go to the store and buy these things.

25 cent pack of anti seize.

4 new spark plugs.

I think a guy in the video said something about that "smell" If that smell is gas then something is not burning it right.

If you had a DVOM i would say OHM the injectors and Voltage Drop all the coil packs.

Good luck bro, if new sparks don't work it does not hurt to have changed them out anyway

One Love,

Ghasty

I did not read everything, so if you have already checked this problem off the list disregard my post.

sounds like a healthy motor but a boost leak.

2nd thought is exhaust gasket leak or something, but check IC pipe/bov. Sounds really whirry like an open turbo. Maybe busted intake pipe to turbo too.

On 2nd (3rd) thought, check the T25 square flange gasket for leaks. Sounds like it's blown out which explains the loud exhaust/turbine noise. Happened to mine when i swapped my engine. Ez fix but it'll take you an afternoon. Try to get a new exhaust gasket to the head too during this fix.

anyone else think its sounds like a go-cart? like the ones at malibu grand prix or boomers? motor sounds good check for leaks, proly just burst a hose or pushed it off, something easy most likely.
