Hey all I'm new to the SR20 scence. I have driven a '90 240 for years now but just recently picked up an '89 with a SR20. I have a few questions regarding what parts you recommend and what ones you don't.

In particular I'm concerned about all of the exhaust/intake manifolds on ebay. They appear to be made of good quality materials but I'm curious of their craftsmanship. There are a few intake manifolds that are EXACT Greddy Replicas. Has anyone tried any of these parts? Any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks
-Nick

Welcome to NICO Now for your questions ebay is good as long as you know what you buying. Me I try to stay away from replicas but there is some good once out there. My friend have a s13 greddy replica int. mani. and it works great for him. Exhaust, it shouldn't be too bad as long it is SS for no rust. Exhaust Mani. you should do a search in this site for a ton of info. And one last thing........

lol welcome...

The majority of exhaust on eBay is SS, so rust won't be an issue, but you should be more concerned with fitment.

Those Greddy manifolds LOOK like exact replicas, but it doesn't mean it functions like the real thing. Most likely the castings will be very poor, and will not be cleaned up. This is where you will be making your power.

I'll have an SR soon and bought some parts:

- Megan turbo elbow- Megan downpipe- Megan test-pipe- HKS catback

This will free up a good deal of power and reduce lag and fitment won't be a problem.

It's all personal preference. I stay away from any "replica" or "style" parts. Only generic stuff I used was ebay Megan manifold and elbow and both cracked. I'm honing my stock exhaust manifold to use until I upgrade the turbo. Everything else upgraded on the car is brand name like Tomei, Nismo, Cusco, Samco, Koyo, JIC, etc. All that stuff is proven. Lots of new companies like megan and Circuit Sports are putting out innovative and cheap products that many people like. For example make sure you get the CS coolant reservoir, $100 well spent. But on the other side, many of those generic ebay parts can actually work good or as well as the part they are copying, but without the name brand behind it you don't have the R&D and QC to guarantee it. Just depends on how ya wanna do it.

I try to shy people away from the Freddy items you find on eBay. As thoughtful put it, the quality of the freddy stuff is questionable. Bad quality control leads to the results I see. But that's just the way you go when you buy chinese knockoffs.

Tubular manifolds are another crapshoot it seems. Most of the cheaper ones on eBay are made with thin walls and tend to crack at the collector. Some come with an L shaped bracket that braces the collector to the block, but I haven't seen any feedback on if that reduces the possibilities of cracking.

A Full Race exhaust mani would be nice, but they're very expensive.

Not only did my mani crack at the collector, that L shaped reinforcement cracked too! Once I get a couple thousand extra bucks I'll get a quality mani and turbo upgrade but until then the stock mani is a no hassle guarantee.
