so i have been saving money and i am ready to get the next upgrade for my car, i have an 89 with a dual cam ka with stage 3 cams, and upgraded ignition and fuel system and i have around 5,000 to spend, should i turbo my dual cam ka or should i just fork out the money and get a sr20?

I am debating the same thing .It sounds like you have a pretty good base to start with.I think i would go ahead and turbo the KA.I am leaning that way with mine because i like the torque the KA has.

i'd say since you already have the KA and already has some upgrades just get a nice turbo kit and a good tune and keep savin instead of startin all over with a stock sr

With that kind of money, you could turbo the KA and still have lots of money left over for other things. Or you could go with an RB/VH. It's really your choice. What's the car for?

personally i would say Ka. it is much more efficient with boost than the Sr. if you put equal size turbo on a stock ka and a stock sr and wanted to get them to put out the same power, the ka would only have to boost like 6 or 7 psi to match what the sr puts out at 10 psi.so boostin 13-16 psi on a ka is like boostin 20-25 psi on an sr. of course it all depends on the application. Ka can put out massive torque but does not rev too high. Sr can rev to the moon but is not a torque factory like the Ka. so it really just depends on what your preference is. horse power or torque. im going KA-T. but i bought a broke a** ka motor and rebuild it from the ground (or in this case the crank) up so it can rev just as high as the Sr

go ka-t

I just sold my 97 240sx with a sr20 for 6k and bought my old s13 back that had a turbo kit on it . bought my car back with 2500 bucks non running (damnnnn ring lands lol . and I just spent 2000 dollars on forged pison and rods with all arp hardware new seal gaskets and machine work ! \

with the price of a sr swap you could have built ka motor that will blow away a sr20 . imo go ka !!! parts are easier to get having a ka

What?? More efficient with boost?? I would disagree, you would need to do some work to the head for it to be more efficient with boost. I would say 8k rev with a stock sr is "okay" but not with a KA, so we are talking 1-2k more time in peak boost. SR ftw without any head or a** work on the KA.

Anyway, dude, just slap on new retainers springs. And if you wish work the bottom end if you want to race fuel tune it with big air CFM pushing into your intake mani, and are worried about blowing something down under. KA-T is pretty cool and much more "original" now a days. If it were up to me, slap a LS or JZ in it before you SR it. But I like the idea of hybrid cars , so much work

I have been pondering this myself. I'm prolly just gonna turbo tha KA. I agree SR's are over rated, and if I was to swap in a diff motor I'd prolly throw in the RB or LS1 before I went SR. Either way it's whatever you want!! Choices are almost endless....
