nothing thin for a turbo especially in summer.

Summer fill: Mobil1 15w-50 (or other premium 50 weight)Winter fill Mobil 1 0w-40 or redline 5w-40 or similiar.

30 weights are too thin.Mobil1 30 weights are even thinner at 100C than most.

I use Moble 1 Synthetic 0w-40 Euro formula. My motor runs smoother with it for some reason then with other oils.

My engine builder, after looking at the blueprint sheet, recommended valvoline VR1 20w-50. Since I am not using a bushing turbo (ball bearing), and it is water cooled, there is no good reason to use synthetic. He has been in the import engine building industry since before anyone knew what a B16 was and I trust his opinion. He has built many an award winning pro-drag engines.I will probably try synthetic after I get some miles on the engine, jsut to see if there is any difference.Just my 2 cents.

VR1,

Is a much better oil for our applications that used by some and I am sure it will work.

But a group 4 synthetic oil has 3 times the oxidation resistance of a non synthetic...

Oil Cokingin a turbo is oxidation.

How does VR1 compare with Redline? I have been running 20W50 in my motor since it was rebuilt. Now that I'm at 15,000, I'm looking to change to something which might deal better with the freeway traffic heat.

Redline has a group 5 base stock, as such, it is extremely stable even more than a group 4 (AMSOIL + Mobil1),Redline 10w-40 is made with base stock, that has so much innate viscosity spread, that it doesnt require viscosity index improvers adding to its stablity even more.

A very strong oil especially in theory. In practice Used Oil Analysis generally look no better than with Mobil 1 or AMsOIL.

But I havent seen many UOA's with Turbo cars in summer.. so its hard to tell how significant those results are.

VR1 is possibly one of the best non synthetic oil for a trubo application.I prefer a good and easily available Mobil1 15w-50.At my local target for 3.79/qt in all grades including 15w-50....

But truth be told I have yet to see a UOA comparing VR1 and Mobil1 in a summer turbo application so its all really conjecture based on what we know about the lube stock and the addiitve packages.

FSM calls for 10w-30. I feel more comfortable with a 40 or maybe even a 50 weight if you live in a warm climate.

Redline is great but dang it is sooo expensive. I have it in there right now but I will probably switch to Vlavoline Synpower 5w-40.

Royal Purple? Its good too. You won't see to much difference between oil's unless you try using like walmart brand or something. Syn. are better since they wont clog oil lines to turbo's if you forget to cool down your turbo after you run once and a while (I use Mobil 15w-50) but I still let my engine cool down, for about 1 minute driving (though neigborhood) and 30 seconds idle in driveway.

I've herd very good things about royal purple from my honda friends. Supposedly it actually does make you run a little quicker. But this is all hear say

The 15208-53Y00 is the correct OEM part# for the SR filter ( early 90's Sentra)
