Hey I've been looking to buy a SR20DET 240 from a friend but it has a bad oil pump. Are they hard to find/order? And then whats the average cost to put it in?

I did a little searching and could find a thread with the same problem but if there is one out there I am sorry.

Are you sure it's got a bad pump?

To replace it, you're either going to need to take the head off, or drop the two lower pans and slide it in place.

If the headgasket is stock, and you choose the lower pan method, you will undoubtedly ruin the front seal of the HG and always have leaks there. With that said, you're best best bet would be to replace it with a Cosworth or ApexI metal headgasket, take the lower pans off, resintall the new pump, and then put the rest back on. It's not really a hard job, but one you should certainly take to ensure a proper seal.

Cheap and crappy way: Lower pans off, slap the new pump up in there iwth a ton of sillicone, and hope for the best.

No matter which way he does it, he'll have to pull the oil pans and reseal them. If he breaks the seal between the front cover and the upper pan, it'll leak no matter what he does. A continuous bead really needs to be laid down to prevent leaking

What's he mean by low? The SR only runs about 12-15 psi at idle, 70-80 psi at WOT and around 45-55 psi cruising around. New oil pump, b/t $170-300, typically around $240.

Low oil pressure (in my SR experiences) can all be attributed to worn out bearings.
